Ah, hello- am new here--
First bit here is on one character that is hated by some people due to his sexual preferences, and then there's a list of the other characters that are hated that I love... ^^;
Jakotsu (from InuYasha) now while a lot of the fandom does love him, there are some that hate him- not because he's a villain, but because he's gay. There are some that kept insisting that he was *female* or just outright attacking him and calling him "disguisting, gross, sick, etc" just because of his sexual preference. Now, I'm a bit confused--- aren't there a lot of gay characters in anime that these "fans" have come across before? I mean characters like Nuriko (Fushigi Yuugi), Fred Lou (Outlaw Star) and Kamatari (Rurouni Kenshin) come to mind...and I've never come across those characters getting attacked for their sexual preference (though, I'm sure they have somehwere ><)
So, here I was- completely baffled being as I am one of the main webmasters/mailing list owners in the Shichinin-tai branch of the InuYasha fandom as to why Jakotsu was singled out.
My only logical conclusion is that- Jakotsu is a sado-masochistic gay. That's right- not only is he attracted to InuYasha, he wants him to be in pain and bleed.
Okay, I'll understand if that creeps you out. I'd understand if people said that they didn't like Jakotsu because of that- but... no, it's blatantly just the fact he's gay that's the problem. I mean, for those that "pretended he was female" they didn't seem to mind that in their mindset, it was a sado-masochistic female now did they? Oy. This has even carried over into reviewers of my fanfics. I'm one of the few InuYasha fanfiction writers that does a lot of Shichinin-tai focused stories. Yes, they are yaoi (I personally am very fond the Jakotsu/Bankotsu concept being as how they are depicted in a close relationship and that they don't have any other love interests) and yet- people that can't seem to understand all my "This is a yaoi fic with this pairing fic" warnings still feel the need to read and review my stories.
One of which, was blatantly a Bankotsu fangirl (calling him "Banko-chan" o.O) claims that she was reading my story by "pretending Jakotsu was a female warrior like Mulan" ><;;; Once again, the fact that Jakotsu loves another man seems to be an issue that people just *can't* deal with.
There was even a website (an pro-InuYasha/Kagome one) that had a short "Anti-Jakotsu" rant on it (basically like I said above- calling him "sick, gross, etc" And when I contacted them about it (feeling that it made the InuYasha/Kagome pairing look bad) they called *me* the immature one. Um... so I'm immature because I'm defending a character's homosexuality? wtf?
Needless to say, the rest of the Shichinin-tai fandom wasn't pleased with this either and it was taken down, but in it's wake I did form a site for the support of Jakotsu *and* his sexual preference.

The others:
Melfina (from Outlaw Star) Ugh, how I hate people that bash her. There is a Gene site (I won't say which) that literally has this on there: "There is only one thing I don't like about him... is his love for Melfina, yikes!!! =>_<" Yeah, she doesn't fight like Aisha or Suzuka. Yeah, she's quiet and reserved- she doesn't even know *who* she is or *why* she exists. Try putting yourself in that position and I'd like to see you be as strong and brave as she is!
Meifon Li (from Angel Links)-- Yes, people even refuse to watch the series because, heaven forbid- the main character is "just fanservice" >< Yeah, she has big breasts- but for crying out loud, she is much much more than fanservice! I love Meifon and I wish that I could be as tough and spunky as she is. She's sweet, yet caring- goes out of her way to help others and can kick major ass in battle. I love her and the series-- both of which are *not* just fanservice
Amelia (from Slayers) I love Amelia and I wish that after all the chaos her family life has been and the fact that she's a Princess with all those duties I could be as cheerful and tough as she is.
Kikyou (from InuYasha) This poor girl is a walking tragedy. Her life ended on a sour note, then she got brought back to life just to have to face it all over again. Sure, at first she was a bit "bitchy" if you wish to call it that, but given what she's been though, I think I'd be "bitchy" too. I love her now, and I'm very interested in her as a character.
Kagome (from InuYasha) Of course, being as she's the other part of the Kikyou/InuYasha/Kagome love triangle, this poor girl is attacked as well. They call her whiny and weak, when Kagome is one of the toughest anime school-girl heroines of all time! The entire InuYasha-tachi would probably have died if it wasn't for her.
Karou (from Rurouni Kenshin) Almost the same reasons Kagome gets bashed, so does Kaoru. I love her, she's a tough gal and she's an awesome fighter.
Sakura (from Naruto) I'll admit at first- I was wondering why Sakura didn't *do* anything. But as I watched, I realized it was because- Sakura already had the knowledge- it had to focus on Naruto leaning those things that Sakura didn't know. Later in the series, Sakura really becomes a tough fighter and she has great potential for the future.
Bikky (from FAKE) I love this kid, he's spunky, he's funny, and OMG he's ruining Dee and Ryo's relationship! >< That's the whole point you silly fangirls- it's called comedy, you're supposed to laugh, not attack the kid. It's a seven volume manga series, Dee and Ryo have plenty of time to hook up.
Erutis (from Demon Diary) The second this female swordswoman stumbled into Raenef's castle at the end of volume one, the cries of "Kill Erutis" began. ( OMG it's a female in a shounen-ai series- kill it! Kill it!) But, despite the fangirlish protests, I love Erutis, she's a swordswoman in a time when they weren't really accepted. She's tough, and she's the voice of reason when Chris and Raenef are being their usual selfs.
Usopp (from One Piece) Okay, so he's not *bish* and he's *not* the main character, so it's okay to ignore/bash him, right? >< I love Usopp- he's a loyal coward, and a tough fighter even though he'd rather run and hide. And sadly, it seems it's the Zoro/Sanji fangirls that are bashing him... wtf? That pairing is not even there and supposedly Usopp is interfering o.O
