Usagi and Chibiusa defence

Usagi is one of my most favorite Sailor Moon characters (along with Minako Aino, Ami Mizuno, and Makoto Kino), but I sometimes felt like the hatred towards her can be really undeserving. Majority of the reasons of why many people hate her is because she is annoying, stupid, whinny, lazy, crybaby, eat too much, being a "Mary Sue," and too clumsy. I ( Read more... )

As for the English dub version of Chibiusa, oh well I also heard the same complaints about her which I agree to an extent. I personally find the English dub version of Chibiusa was kind of a let down, because Chiniusa's personality was totally butchered by the English dub executor. In the original anime version, Chibiusa still showed her positive traits. While in the manga, Chibiusa has a really sweet personality.

Btw, Chibiusa wasn't the only one whose personality got butchered by the English dub executors. Other characters like Usagi, Makoto, Mamoru, and even Rei personalities' are also completely butchered.

In the English dub, Usagi was butchered into a complete brat, the English dub cut her positive traits. Makoto in the English dub was butchered into a Tomboy who behaves like a thug, the original version of Makoto was a tomboy and tough but matured and feminine girl. Rei in the English dub turned into a complete (sorry for the word) b*tch, in the original anime version Rei was suppose to be the feisty tsundere who still shows her kindness and compassion towards Usagi. While Rei in the manga was more matured and mysterious.

Yeah, it's a pity that happened with the characters in the English dub. Some positive traits still came through, but they definitely ended up with more bad traits than they had originally.

I have to admit, I don't really care for Rei in either version of the anime. At least in season 1, even in the Japanese version, she is really unnecessarily nasty to Usagi sometimes. Maybe that lessens over time into the comfortable banter they develop; I'm hoping to re-watch the whole anime straight through, but I still need to buy the other re-released DVD sets. (I only have the first one.)

Oh well, it is true that Rei in the anime can be rather "b#tchy" (sorry for my word) to Usagi, but she isn't bad IMO. At least she has her own moments where she can be sympathetic to Usagi.

Yes me too.

And btw I also heard several complaints from some Sailor Moon fans about anime version of Mamoru, they said that anime version of Mamoru is useless and acts like a jerk sometimes. I actually kind of blame the anime executor for butchering Mamoru's personality (especially in the English dub). While in the manga, Mamoru is sweeter and more supporting towards Usagi.

I've definitely heard those complaints a lot. I don't know; since Mamoru has to intervene in almost every episode when the girls get into a sticky situation, it doesn't seem like he's useless. I do love how supportive and sweet he is in the manga, though. :)

Mamoru likes to intervene in almost every episode because during the sticky situations Usagi almost always lost her fighting spirit. Usagi almost always needs some kind of encouragements either from Mamoru (as Tuxedo Mask) or any of the other Senshis to boost up her fighting spirit.

Then again, you have to keep in mind that there are several times where Mamoru has to be saved by Usagi.
