A Real Person Defense

It seems these days, there has to be some musician that is just hated no matter where you go. Several years ago it was Hilary Duff (I think). Then it was Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. For awhile it seemed like you couldn't watch a music video on Youtube without seeing one of the top comments saying "Better than Justin Bieber". And Britney Spears is just always an Acceptable Target for some people. But these days it's someone else's turn in the seat.

I am, of course, referring to one Rebecca Black, who rose to fame with her ridiculously catchy song "Friday". The music video has already taken the place of "Baby" as the most disliked video on Youtube.

Yes, the song has stupid lyrics. Yes, Auto-Tune can grate on the ears of some people. But people, don't take it out on Rebecca Black. She didn't write the song, she didn't Auto-Tune it. Hell, she's even joked about the video herself. She's 14. She does not deserve to be sent death threats or have to be pulled out of school because of bullying. Hell, I don't think she'd deserve it even if she were 20!

It was disturbing enough seeing people wish death on a 16-17 year old boy. And now they're going after a 13-14 year old girl. It's enough to make someone cynical about society and the Internet.

Personally, I think the song is so silly that it's awesome and that Rebecca Black has an interesting voice. I'm also impressed by how well she's been taking the Hatedom she's acquired.

But seriously people, the Hatedom has gone too far. At the risk of sounding like Chris Crocker, "LEAVE REBECCA ALONE!".
