Character who are hated for being "that" usurper of another character's throne.

In case you don't get what I mean by that title, this entry is about the discussion of characters that get hated because they ended up replacing another character, particularly if the character being replaced is known to be ultra popular.  I know there's bound to be some.

I originally wanted to post something like this because when Dead Rising 2 came out last year, the lead character for that game was not Frank West and was replaced with a new character, Chuck Greene.  Chuck got a lot of flak for many things, particularly for not being Frank West.  Even when the downloadable supplement game Case West came out, where Frank West and Chuck Greene teamed up, Chuck still got flak because having him with Frank just convinces them Chuck isn't as cool as Frank.  In fact, one particular reason Dead Rising 2: Off The Record got made was because the fans wanted Frank West rather than Chuck Greene and we now have this "What if" story for Dead Rising 2 with Frank West as the playable character at Dead Rising 2's location, being released later.  To put it this way, they both use whatever they can get their hands on to kill zombies, you can get them cross dressing for your own amusement, and they have their moments of bad liners (yeah, people had a gripe with Chuck's bad lines, yet Frank West is remembered for one bad line where he said he covered wars).  As far as I'm concerned, they both can kill zombies with whatever they can get their hands on and make killing those zombies with what they get so satisfying.

Of course, knowing that my middle school years were spent involved with Pokémon, I really should mention Kenji/Tracey, since he's pretty known for being "that one character" replacing a popular character.  Brock gets replaced and people didn't really like Tracey and of course, got the flak with replacing Brock being one particular reason (Of course, Brock would come back and stay until he leaves before the series on the recent Pokémon games).  I wouldn't call Tracey a favorite character of mine in Pokémon, but he wasn't the worst there was for me.

I haven't really kept up with Pokémon (even when I'm hanging around a Pokémon forum), so I'm really not sure what it was like when it became a thing to replace the female companion.  However, I know people did not like May because she replaced Misty (whenever or not they warmed up to May is a different story but the point is there).

So, for an open discussion here, I just want to hear about characters that gets hated for being "that one character" who replaced a popular character in different series.
