I wouldn't call him a "hated" character since he's one of the most popular characters in the series, but throughout various fanfics I have come across a negative, shallow portrayal of Ouran High School Host Club's Tamaki Suoh. It's now gotten to the point where I feel the need to defend the guy.

crying "comic relief = stupid!", male characters, crying "male flirt = asshole", "durrr what's character development?", ouran koukou host club

people hate Tamaki? How is that possible? He is my favorite character in Ouran.

I don't think that people particularly hate him. But, I do think that some fans tend to ignore his deeper characteristics and development in favor of a more shallow portrayal. That's what I've witnessed in fanfics, anyway.

I've seen a lot of recent things where people constantly bash him. They make him the biggest idiot in the world and constantly beat him up. Sure he can bee eccentric and a little dorky, but he's not really a total idiot. He is smart in certain ways. =/
I see one person who does it a lot on dA and it's kind of annying.

I encountered a HikaHaru-toting Tamaki-hating nazi years ago... i was friends with her... x_x omg, how can anyone hate Tamaki?

I don't hate him but I'd also like to point out how he can be hated because he was basically homophobic in that episode with the Lobelia girls.

This may be a translation error (I hope it is) but he said something along the lines of "No! Two girls can't do that! God made Adam and Eve"
Like I said this may just be a translation error but if it is not the fault of the translation I can understand why people may hate him.
Again he is one of the characters that I like so I insist on believing this is a translation error.
