"And he would've gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for that meddling kid!"

Near seems to get a lot of hate, particularly in the Light Yagami Facebook fan page.

First off, he's lambasted for being L's replacement. Of course L needed a replacement. He's DEAD. You think the world should just relax when the human population has holes in it thanks to Kira? I wonder why the SPK members aren't also being shot down along with Near? Since they are kinda like the task force, only stationed in America.

Near is an immature brat? How so when he's L's successor? In the episode after L's death, Near even said that he's better off as the next L because he not as emotional as Mello (no offense to Mello fans, but this is true). He plays with toys and twirls his hair while investigating, very normal, childlike habits. I mean, he is probably no more than 14 or so, maybe younger. So he sits on the floor with his knees tucked in, doesn't wear shoes, and has cute little quirky habits that make him seem like he's deep in thought...that sound familiar. Kind of like...Ryuuzaki?

And they say that Near only won because all the previous research was available to him. Well, I distinctly remember Watari pressing the "Delete ALL Data" button right before he died. So, if Near is a genius and was suspicious of Light being Kira, doesn't it make sense that he'd try to beat Light at his own game? Maybe the ending was rushed, but doesn't it? Near only got lucky when Light was finally found to be Kira? Well, so was L when he broadcast the execution of Lind L. Tailor.

So, this brings me to question: Would you feel the same about Near had he appeared before Ryuuzaki? Would you call Ryuuzaki a heartless old bully? A pedophile? Would there be as many Light x L fics?

near, crying "childlike = stupid", crying "not a clone of chara a = horribl, character a vs. character b, nate river, crying "child = immature!", death note, child characters, fanbutt hypocrisy alert!, crying "poor replacement"
