In defense of Shirley Fenette
Shirley is probably one of the most hated characters in Code Geass. Many people bash her and never stop to think about her situation.
She whines too much!
Umm... if I remember correctly, Shirley only "whined" in one or two episodes when she was trying to call Lelouch on her cell phone. She was concerned about his safety and of course she'd ask alot of questions/get angry.
She's annoying, selfish and doesn't do anything!
You know, when Suzaku first came to Ashford, Shirley was one of the only ones who wanted to make him feel welcome, but Rivalz stopped her saying that she should be careful around and "Eleven".
And what do you mean by "selfish"? Whenver we hear about Shirley, she's always concerned about the well being of her friends. At the same time, because Shirley has feelings for Lelouch she's concerned about him too. Last time I checked, a selfish person never cared about the well-being of others as much as Shirley does.
Out of all Lelouch's friends that found out about his true identity, Shirley was the only one who was able to forgive him. As most of Lelouch's friends started to distance themselves away from him, Shirley was one of the few who still stood by his side. Deep inside, Shirley knew Lelouch was a good person. Sure she almost shot him, but that was because it was right after she found out about her father's death and was easily manipulated. In the end, she managed to get herself together and ask Lelouch for forgiveness.
And in Episode 14 of Code Geass R2, Shirley tells Rollo that she too wants to help him protect Lelouch who is a precious friend to her. If that's not being proactive then what is? Shirley knew that protecting Lelouch and confronting Rollo would be dangerous but she still went through with it because she cares for Lelouch that much.
Shirley's just an all around sweet, unselfish girl. And don't you at least feel sorry for her? What makes me sad is how many people cheered when they heard that Rollo killed her.
