Fresh BloodNew member here. :] Joined about a week ago and got caught up and never got around to introducing myself, so... yeah.
But let's get down to buissiness, yes?
note: these 'defense'/rants contains spoilers for Death Note and Sailor Moon!
Do you know who this little cutie is? That's right, Misa Amane from the wildly popular series, Death Note! Have a gold star.
Allow me to first say that I am deeply saddened by how the words "slut" and "whore" get thrown around so easily. It seems a lot of people hae forgotten the meaning of the word, which is as just: whore (NOUN) a woman who engages in promiscuous sexual intercourse, usually for money; prostitute; harlot; strumpet. Slut (NOUN) an immoral or dissolute woman; prostitute.
With that in mind, I can safely and confidently say that Misa-Misa is neither of them. A popular bashing of Misa is that, "she's a whore/slut!" Now, Misa equates sex with love, it's a canon fact that she asked a director of a movie she was in to tone down the love scenes. She also refused to kiss the actor who her character was in love with, citing that she has a boyfriend as her reason. It's common sense that if you mess up in the showbiz, it will bite you in the ass. ;] And by mess up, I mean refuse to do things as the director wants. You could gain a reputation for being difficult and that could ruin your image. If you ruin your image, that's it. Kaputski. Buh-bye acting career. Misa, I believe, is aware of this. She has common knowledge, believe it or not, so the fact she was willing to risk her career for Light, a guy she knows doesn't really care for her, is really overwhelming. It shows she has pride, morals and is loyal. I know, who'd have pegged the "dumb blonde" for the one with morals and loyality?
But that's just the thing: Misa is not a dumb blonde. I actually think she's fairly intelligent, it's just hard to see because when you place someone next to Light and L -- they're going to look stupid. Those two are on another level entirely; of course a normal human being like Misa isn't going to compare. She wasn't bred in a Government Test Tube! /shot
Whether or not Misa is booksmart is not really revealed. We don't know how she did in school, she could have very well been a straight A student! But this is not revealed. Instead of focusing on unconfirmed information, I will focus on the fact that Misa is very street-smart. The fandom seems to forget that she got Higuchi to admit to being Kira on tape (Which drew attention from Light and to Higuchi), and she did this without instruction from L or Light. Shocking, I know. Canon has Light saying that Misa was smart enough to send the tapes without her fingerprints on them and avoid the police, even. She also figured out who Kira was before anyone else. Granted, she had supernatural forces helping her, but with the Death Note, Kira was the ultimate murderer. Kira had no face nor name, the fact Misa figured it out is still surprising. Yeah, she had some help, but what normal human being could have figured out who Kira was by themselves?
Another argument that states Misa is stupid is that she's blindingly loyal to Light, though he is using her and this makes her not-so-bright. I will not deny that it's not an intelligent situation, but she's in love. Can you blame her for trying? Besides, Light got revenge for her. It's very possible that Misa feels she owes him. I, personally, think she did fall for Light, and because her parents were "taken away" from her at a young age, she tries to please Light to keep him with her. It's hard for someone to watch their parents get murdered in front of their eyes, not minding the fact Misa was very young when it happened. She watched her Mother and Father die. I think that alone merits some sort of complex, her's is that she wants the people closest to her to remain close. Because she really cares about Light, this shows.
[end of Misa rant.]
Poor Chibi-Usa. She just can't catch a break...
I mean, here she is, just a normal little girl who wants to be like her mother, and then she made a boo-boo. When the holds the Silver Crystal in her hands, Neo-Tokyo turns into Crystal Tokyo! This is a weak spot for the Nega Moon (I think that was their names, BSSM has so many villians! ♥) and they attack, encasing her Mother in crystal. Unfortantly, her Mother is the only one who can restore piece, so she has to go back in time and convince her Mother's younger self to come to the future and save Neo-Tokyo!
You would think that they would at least give the poor thing a break, but she's bashed left and right. Yeah, sure, she's a brat, but what is she -- nine years old? And she's responsible for encasing an entire city in crystal? You'd think bashers would give her leeway but she's literally just a child in a strange envoirment, alone and away from home. She has this heavy burden of knowing what happened and top of that, her Mother's past self is completely incompetent. And she's not even ten -- were you a perfect angel when you were ten? I would suspect not. ;] Not to mention, she takes after her mother. Usagi isn't excatly the most well-behaved girl ever -- she's got her bratty, whiney moments. Heck, a lot of the cast does. They're just not bashed for it.
All in all, she's a little girl dealing with a lot of stress. I think it's perfectly normal that she's bratty, and I love her for it, personally!
Ahaha, that came out surprisingly long. o_o;
