On Eileen Galvin...

I feel like this is the only safe place I can say this, but: Silent Hill 4 fandom, can we lighten up on Eileen Galvin just a little?

OK, I know she's a pain in the neck who hobbles around after you and whines. And you have to protect her and she'll talk baby talk if she takes too much damage. And if you just don't like her, or the game in general, from a gameplay standpoint, then hey, different tastes and all that.

But, speaking of her as a character... if you were nearly killed by Walter Sullivan and had a number carved into your back and you woke up in a place much like hell with no clue what was happening and Henry "poster boy for flat affect" Townshend as your only salvation, you might whine too. I'm serious here, or as serious as I get about fictional characters. Not that I'm picking on Henry. I love him too.

Plus, Walter was taking her over, that's why she could read the stones in Forest World. Heaven only knows what was happening to her brain by then.

Actually, the way I percieve her, she's hobbling around after Henry as fast as she can, and if she whines that he's going too fast maybe it's because if he leaves her there she's going to be, y'know, dead? (Which she was anyway in my game because I got the worst ending, but I felt bad about that part.) To me it's part of the challenge of the game (well, OK, I used a walkthrough to get through the second half) that you can't just run as fast as possible and whack everything with an axe, but as I said above, I understand if that didn't work for you. But try not to hate on the poor woman so much.

Not to mention, unlike Maria in SH2 you can equip her with a weapon. Sometimes it's not worth doing around ghosts, and the handbag maybe looks a little silly, but by the second trip through Building World she's knocking gumheads to the ground with a nightstick and all Henry has to do is stomp on them. I call that really convenient.

Plus, where's this perception that Eileen is unattractive coming from? Yeah, she spends most of the game bleeding and bandaged because this is Silent Hill, and maybe she's not walking sex like dear Cynthia, but I think she's a very pretty woman. (And she also makes kind of nice couple with Henry, in a Silent Hill sort of way.) There's no point calling her ugly just because you wish the whole game had been Henry running around beating stuff to death with a pipe and no Eileen.
