Videl Versus The World Yet Again!

Aug 08, 2004 22:20

Hello again, boys and girls! Did you miss me? I know I missed all of you very much! More than that bout of TB I had, even.

Well, kiddies, today's rant is about "stereotypes" and the inevitable portion where I declare my love for Weiß Kreuz. You know, that anime with the anti-plot? That makes less sense the further you try and get into it?

Of course you do, dearies, that's why you're still reading this!

Well, toady's vent was inspired by someone's note in their fanfiction. So let's start there, shall we?

A/N: Yuriko is a bitch. I hate her. I don't mind that Ken spend a couple days with a women in the anime but I just don't like her. She always seemed way to pushy to me. Well here's the chapter. Try to enjoy!

Oh, my. Oh, my, my, my. The grammar hit me first, I'm afraid. "Woman" is not "women," thank you... and two 'O's... thank you...

But back to our basics, no?

Yes, I will admit that the first time I saw episode 5 of Weiß, I despised Yuriko. Maybe more than "despise." I don't quite recall. The point is, as I grew as a person (and as I watched the episode again and again!), I really started to like the Aussie-loving girl.

But... a bitch?

Yes, she may seem intimidating. And I realize that Ken told her that Freud was poison and that she drank it just to get him to come with her. Conniving, no? But all she wanted was for him to be with her. She didn't cry or scream or try and rip his lungs out when she was alone on the plane, either. And can you tell me why, my guys and dolls?

That's right! It's just another fanon stereotype.

Now, just because a male character is attracted to a female that one may not like, that does not automatically make this female a 'bitch' or a 'whore.' My dears, if you want to see bitches and whores, I advise you to hop a plane or a boat and visit North Country Union High School. You'll soon learn the differences, I assure you.

But! Back to Yuriko and why I now like her.

She was sweet, and she and Ken share similar interest. You know, he loses more people on disc one than anyone else. Really.

They got along well, and he was kind of embarrassed by it at points, if I recall things correctly. She didn't bother to hide her attraction to him, though---but she still remains an un-whore, dears. She did not hit on him or wear black leather corsets, though that would've been so COOOL!!! that might have been interesting. Do you remember what she did?

That's right! She asked him to come and stay with her, because they were alike and she was leaving the country.

Ultimately, however, Ken could not keep that promise and stayed behind. He does have feelings for the woman, though, and the flower pressed into her book (journal? Diary? Harlequin Romance novel?) seems proof enough of that! And while she seems accustomed to getting her way, there's nothing bitchy about the way she behaves.

Now, children, we all know that stereotyping is wrong, right? Good! Because the above is a blatant example of such a horrible feat. Male is allowed to like or love Female as he wishes; no one else can have their say about right and wrong. Male could even love Male II, and it should not matter.

I ask you all to reflect on this, and study hard! There will be a quiz next period on all of the elements on the periodic table in 1953. I wish you all the best of luck, my duckies! And may you have a fine day as well.

This sort of thing really shows up a lot, no? And it can all be stripped down to preferences, darlings. Just remember, raping character is wrong. Never forget that, or else someone may remind you with a wooden ladle to the head one day.
