Why I love the villian.

Sorry if someone's already done something like this.

I notice many of the hated characters (when not female), are the badguys.

This doesn't apply to some of them. There are some badguys I'm neutral on-- Voldemort for example. He's a villain archetype, not a character who gets up, brushes his teeth, has breakfast etc, so I can't relate to him as a person.

With other Harry Potter villains, hatred isn't so much a problem. Draco and Snape are some of the most bewilderingly fangirled "villains" of the series.

I must admit, I also love them.

Same with Akito from Fruits Basket. I unabashedly adore the character. From the little I've seen of Yami no Matsuei, I can say Muraki is probably my favorite character.

This is not because any of them are teh hawt-- from the descriptions of Snape and Draco, this is affirmatively not true for me, and in the case of Akito, he is so thin as to be unattractive if he were real, and shorter than the female average. Features of Muraki would scare the bejesus out of me more than make me want to fangirl him.

And this is just looks. Personality-wise, they are at the very least unpleasant to be around. Why would anyone like nasty, probably unattractive, and in many cases, definitely evil characters?

Because the parts of the series they're in are the ones I am most involved in. I look forward to every time they're on page, because I'm saying "Oh, God, what's going to happen." When the villain's doing his thing, I care more about the characters, and believe more in the world they inhabit than when he isn't.

Villains get me involved in the story, and I love them for it.
