I sometimes wonder what posseses people who hate characters to write stories that so completely destroy the character's personality, that the whole reason they hate them is lost. I mean, if you hate a character, wouldn't you write them the way they truly act, and then point out what it is about their real personalities that you dislike?
But of course, that would be logical. And anyone in the Weiß fandom knows that logic does not exist there.
Now, I'm of the belief that people are allowed to dislike characters. There are characters I personally am not thrilled with. But I'd still write them with respect, and in character. I mean, they deserve that much.
But when it comes to any female that's ever grace Weiß Kreuz, the idea of respect is thrown out the window. Because apparently, the women in that series are the true villains. Or something stupid like that.
If
gangstavidel is the biggest Ouka Fangirl, than I could, with little argument, be given the title of biggest Sally Fangirl. Yes, I actually like Sally. Dare to say I love the passive lil' thing.
Which is why I actually dared to find something Farfarello/Sally oriented online. Damn me. I should realize that there are some obsessions I have that no one else shares.
I found
this piece of trash while searching. Did you know that all the girls from the series are just the most evillest creatures ever? And, oh yes, I love how people hate Asuka because Yohji's an obsessed freak. That makes sense.
Of course, the part of the fic that got me was
this. The idea of Farfarello, of all characters, calling Sally a "bitch" made me practically choke on my chocolate milk.
Sally, you see, only makes an appearence in the Schwartz Drama CDs. And yes, every single Weiß Drama CD is on crack. Every. Last. One. But bad drugs aside, I still found myself feeling for the poor girl. Her life sucked. I mean, really, really sucked.
Her entire village thought she and her family were a bunch of demon witches. When you grow up in a situation like that, one of two things are bound to happen. You either grow up with a chip on your shoulder, and lash out at anything that moves, or you become so unconfident, that you try to hide yourself at any given moment. Sally chose the latter. She's passive, soft spoken, and has about jack spit when it comes to self worth. She didn't really seem to mind the idea of Farfarello killing her, because that's how little she thinks of herself. That, and she wanted to help Farfie.
There's also the fact that Estet kidnapped her, and basically planned to use her because of her powers that she doesn't seem to be able to use very well, anyway. She only escaped because Rudolf tried to help her, and then Rudolf dies big time. Farf saves her, and then she has the joy of meeting Crawford, Schuldig, and Nagi. Nagi, being the closest thing to sane Schwartz has is okay. Crawford treats her like garbage, and Schuldig decides that he might as well have some fun, and tries to rape her. What a joy Sally's life is.
Again, the Drama CDs are a really bad trip. But you can't blame their bizarreness on Sally. It's kinda like blaming Tenchi in Tokyo on Sakuya. People do that, too, but it's still stupid. One character does not ruin a show/cd.
I also never understood the need to hate Sally because Farfarello fell for her. Pardon my apparently odd way of thinking, but isn't it a good thing that he's no longer going to act like a homicidal maniac, with a love of hurting himself and God? I'd much rather have someone like that be less of a nutjob, instead of more of one. It is not a bad thing that Farfarello is happy. For God's sake, we have enough angsty pretty boys in that series. Losing one won't kill you.
Also, Farfarello doesn't seem that far off his usual personality, anyway. His love for Sally is just about a psychotic obsession. Going so far as saying "I'll kill anyone who touches my Sally." And repeatedly stating only he can protect her. He gets beaten, shot, and stabbed in his effort to protect her. And, per usual with him, he really doesn't seem to notice it. Basically, Farfarello has a really twisted, violent idea of how to take care and protect her. And Sally (Who I firmly believe is not completely right in the head herself.) really doesn't seem to think that his way is wrong. Just so long as he's okay in the end.
Bottom line, Sally's just a very docile, gentle person with powers she doesn't seem to know how to use well. She has things happen to her that she doesn't want, and she'd probably be very happy just living your average, normal life. She's just gonna have it with Farfarello. Which probably messes up the idea of normal, but I somehow think her version of normal is a bit different than most people's, anyway.
Hating on such an obscure character just boggles my mind. I'm actually writing a Farfarello/Sally fic. I'm sure this will garantee my a spot in hell according to many a Weiß fangirl. Not that I care much.
And I know for a fact that hating Sally doesn't mean you have to write idiocy like the one I found above. One of my friends isn't particularly thrilled with her, and was amused and horrified to find I was writing a Farf/Sally fic. But she still didn't even attempt to stop me. In fact, she even helped me when I got writer's block. Of course, now I can't stop thinking of Fox!Schudlig, Wolf!Crawford, Bunny!Nagi, Squirrel!Fafarello, and Kitty!Sally whenever I write. But at least it makes me smile.
