Look what we found in the greenhouse today! This is the first crop of the year coming through (not counting sprouting things, I mean) and I grew it all by myself from teeny little seeds and I'm *very* excited.
The seedlings are Rocket, as it says in the picture. The tiny little sprouts scattered just in front of the rocket are the beginnings of a mixed salad seed packet - no idea what I'm going to get from that lol. As for the rocket it is variety Sky Rocket:
"Combines the speed of Salad Rocket and the flavour of Wild Rocket. An upright habit, so keeps the attractive serrated leaves clean and disease free. Pungency increases as the plants develop. Best cut as small leaves. Slow to bolt." (Thompson & Morgan)
"A well lobed salad rocket type, quick growing and ready to cut in 25-30 days with a succulent rocket flavour. Bred for the flavour of Wild Rocket and the growing habit of rocket, a slow bolter and slow to stress." (Nicky's nursery)
How exciting! The quick-growing aspect sounds good to me. The seedlings have taken 7 days to sprout to this level, and it looks as though we will be eating rocket salad within the next 3 weeks or so, and thinnings well before then. I'm going to move this container to my windowsill once we get through the cress that is there at the moment.
Hooray!
