Here are my sprouting herbs (from top to bottom: parsley, garlic chives, coriander)
And here are my sprouting asparagus (so far, at the last count, 10 out of 12 have come up - and I had given up hope of any - and I had sowed another 24!) When they come up they are like very tiny asparagus spears, the size of a yarn needle, then they get leafy / ferny. These are at various stages:
It was less rainy today, although still chilly, so we didn't do a lot - actually, I didn't plan to do anything but Persephone wanted to go and see the chickens after nursery so... off we went (and fed them blueberry muffins, the spoiled little hens!)
We've had a bit of a pest attack on the comfrey - I found loads of damage and the straw mulch I'd put down to protect the plant from drying out (before all this rain!!) was harbouring a monster haul of slugs. I got rid of both, the plant should live if the slugs don't come back to finish it off - grr.
The aphids and ants are still on the broad beans - I had half-hoped that the rain would wash them off or something (optimism, huh) - I will try and make a soapnut solution to spray them with - need to get an uncontaminated spray container first (mine all have or have had vinegar or nasty chemicals or something in them, which I really don't want to spray on the crops)
Hoed away a few weeds, realised when I got home that the pumpkin plants had been in the mini-greenhouse all day instead of outside hardening off - urgh - start again tomorrow!
