i thought it was annoying when my downstairs neighbor revealed herself as a musician in the form of singing and playing keyboard unabashedly. she sounds like paula cole as a contestant on "american idol." luckily, she generally keeps this singing and keyboard-playing to the afternoons. if she starts up, i take it as a cue for me to go on a walk, turn music up next to the window loudly, or go make bake a pie. sometimes it sounds like there's a whole band down there. it was funny for about 30 seconds when they performed at the sports bar-esque burger place on the corner a few weeks in a row.
things have taken a turn for the worst. my new next door neighbors, whose windows are parallel to mine from a distance of about 4 feet, have also turned out to be singer-songwriters. this manifests itself in the form of semi-tuneful jam sessions on acoustic guitar that go into 3am, followed by an alarm clock going off for 20 minutes at the time for two hours beginning at 7:30am. they have just started up again, and my head is throbbing from last night's lack of sleep. they seem to have about two songs in their catalog, one of which involves singing "don't let me down" for 15 minutes.
i've been trying to figure out how to address it without seeming like a bitch. maybe i should make them a dozen cookies that spell out "shut up, please," a letter per cookie.
p.s. ten days short of a year since my last public entry!
