Wolverine

I haven’t journaled about hockey in a while. After my old team, the Phantoms, won the championship, I split from them as they moved up to the next level of play. I couldn’t play those nights, so I hung back in the Saturday night league. They put me on a team, the Wolverines, that was undermanned and in desperate need of players. I only knew one of the guys beforehand, and not well.

And it’s been a good experience for me. I didn’t know how they played, and they didn’t know my abilities, so I pressured myself to step up. I feel that I’ve made more progress in my game in the last four weeks than I had in the last year. I’m skating harder because I’m not certain that I’ve got a D-partner who can bail me out if I screw up, and I’m handling the puck a lot more because they didn’t know me when I couldn’t pass a puck to save my life.

And, even though the team is 2-2, I’m a +7. I’ve been on the ice eight times when we scored, and only once for an opposing team’s score. And that was by another former Phantom, who was cherry picking no less.
