Ready for a new tutorial? Learn how to make this icon of Carrie Underwood:
using this pic:
Cut! This was made in Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, but it is translatable to PSP (I don't know about Gimp!). This tutorial is kinda lengthy, but it's worth it in the end!
Step 1: Open up your base, sharpen it, and resize it to 100x100.
Step 2: Duplicate your base, and set it to "screen" 100% opacity. Depending on how light your base already is, you may either have to lower the opacity or skip this step.
Step 3: Time for some coloring! Make a new layer (layer: new: layer or layer: new fill layer: solid color) and type this color code in: 031649 (a darker shade of navy blue). Set this layer to "exlcusion" 100% opacity.
Step 4: Make a new layer, set it to "multiply" 53% opacity, and fill the layer with this color: fce4d6 (a light peach shade)
Step 5: I wanted to try to bring out some blue in the pic, so I made another new layer, filled it with 319180 (a darker shade of greenish blue), and set this layer to "soft light" 100% opacity.
Step 6: Next, take your base, duplicate it, bring it up to the top, and set this layer to "screen" 100% opacity.
Step 7: I wanted to play around with the hue/saturation, so I did this: layer: new adjustment layer: hue/saturation. Leave the blend mode and opacity alone, we just want to play with the color. This is how I did my colors:
Master: Hue: -7 Saturation: +10 Lightness: 0
Reds: Hue: -7 Saturation: -4 Lightness: -1
Yellows: Hue: +7 Saturation: +21 Lightness: +8
Greens: Hue: +16 Saturation: +19 Lightness: +8
Cyans: Hue: -8 Saturation: +29 Lightness: -20
Blues: Hue: +2 Saturation: -14 Lightness: +6
Magentas: Hue: -6 Saturation: -4 Lightness: +5
^Be sure to play around with the levels on this one!
Step 8: Duplicate your base, bring it to the top, set it to "soft light" 100% opacity.
Step 9: I decided I wanted to add some color burn to Carrie, so I made a new layer, filled it with 599ffe (a darker shade of sky blue), and set this layer to "color burn" 100% opacity.
Step 10: Duplicate your last layer (the color burn layer), leave the blending mode at "color burn" but lower your opacity to 30%.
That's it! Make sure you play around with your opacities and colors! Comments are appreciated, and please, friend me if you like this tutorial!
