But now the the strike is over I think I can book our tickets now because I prefer the train these days. "Improved work schedules, benefits and training are among the demands of the 340 engineers, who have been without a contract for 2½ years.
Via Rail announced Saturday that it had issued layoff notices to hundreds of employees who work on trains and in stations and maintenance centres. Those people were expected to be called back to work."
Two and half years is a long time to be without a contract and it won't end there because it's mostly going to cover at the most four years and it starts all over in a year and a half. But at least the engineers agreed to a sensible solution so their co-workers wouldn't suffer to long.
