Cry of the Eagle: Encounters with a Cree Healer by David E. Young, Grant Ingram and Lise Swartz.

If you are looking for a more personal anthropological study in native medicine in Canada, this would a be a good book to read. Russell Willier, a Cree healer, participated in a Psoriasis Study in the late 80s that looked at how Cree traditional medicine dealt with psoriasis. During the study, the tree authors observed and asked Russell Willier about Cree beliefs, how medicine worked to heal people and the conflict and cohabitation of traditional and western medicine. Even though the book is almost twenty years old it still has resonance with current issues in native communities with young having no hope, the old dying off and tacking important traditional knowledge with them, and conflicts between native and non-native land use. A good book to get a taste of Cree beliefs and medical methodology.
