Introducing Rowes + Kittengeddon

Well, it's taken me long enough!  I'm not thrilled with these pictures- he looks SO much better in person, I swear, but here we go!  This is Rowes, who character-wise is Aravin's eerily quiet best friend.  Jess-Kane on DoA recently did a face-up tutorial on him for all of us at the last Savannah meet, and did me the super-generous favor of taking him home with her to do a real face-up on him!  I didn't give her any instrcutions whatsoever, but ironically I think he turned out so perfect for his character!

These are just the only eyes/wig I had around to fit him- he'll have green eyes and blonde hair as soon as I can manage to acquire those items for him ^^

And now, the tale of Kittengeddon.  Some things have been solved, some not.  My neighbors finally got their act together and have an organization coming with traps for the adult cats.  We'll have to take them to Hilton Head, but they'll be spayed for free.  I caught all NINE of the kittens outside last night and put them in a huge storage bin out in the foyer I share with my neighbors (told them about it first, of course). We checked availability at several no-kill shelters, which were full, but my neighbor seemed sure the Humane Society would take them, since she had taken other animals there before with no trouble.  Of course though, I had trouble.

So I was feeling ok about everything, took them over to the Humane Society this afternoon.  I must have said the wrong things right off the bat.  The women at the animal intake center asked me if the kittens were "mine," and I said "I guess so?"  They asked if I fed the mother, etc., I said my neighbors did mostly, and yes the mothers were strays.

"We only take owned animals," she told me.  "Since they're strays, you'll have to take them to animal control."  I just stood there, perplexed, asking what I had to do for them to be able to take the kittens- take them to the vet first, what?  They went stiff-lipped on me and just repeated, "We only take animals that are owned."  I asked what the hell the difference was and they talked to me like I was a retard, rolling their eyes, "OWNED animals are animals you OWN, and have taken care of."  I didn't know what to say.  Of course I've been taking care of of them, but these women were turning me away mostly because I was ignorant to their terms and worded things the wrong way.  I broke down crying and left, hesitated for a moment looking at the Animal Control center a couple hundred yards away, couldn't bring myself to do it, put them back in the car and drove home.  I called two more animal shelters, both full and refused me, but one lady was finally helpful at least with the advice that I'd have the best luck just trying to find homes for them on my own.  So that's what I'm trying to do.  I posted flyers all around my house so people walking by will see them, I've already gotten one response from my craigslist ad, and I posted in a few other places.  One girl in my weaving class had the great suggestion of taking them out to the park on Saturday, too, so I'm going to do that.

I only have a week to get rid of them though- my neighbors are already complaining that they're going to "stink up" the foyer.  I feel like telling them they ought to fucking deal with it, because this problem was in motion several years before I lived here, they feed the things and take NO responsibility for the harmful effects of that.  I don't feed them and I'm the one solving the whole issue.  I just can't live with myself if I have to take them to Animal Control come next week.

In GOOD news, Weebie has perked up and is doing just fine, back to his old self, but I still can't take any chances.

My mom says she wants the black and white one....it's such an unusual kitten- one bright blue eye, one green, and a black eye patch.  Pirate kitten, we call it.
