Tally- hoo! Toodle- blarney! Pip, pippety, pip, pip, last one in gets a jolly roger in the breeches for king and country and all who sail within!
I'm still in London, which is a bit special. Adventures are intermittently forthcoming. Yesterday, I auditioned for a cabaret - and the audition was filmed for a SkyOne documentary. I look eagerly forward to getting the job, or not, or being edited to the point that I resemble a complete arse, which shouldn't take too long. I'm relatively certain I referred to myself as "a national treasure", but everybody's an Australian national treasure - we don't have a large enough population for each citizen to be a nonentity.*
*Which isn't to say that everybody isn't special over here, it's just that the size of the population has hit me and I wobble somewhere between statistics and "holy Christ, look at them all!"
"Critizen" seems like an acceptable word,
I have met some lovely individuals, some theatre friends, a small contingent of people who saw my show in Edinburgh - and a whole bunch of comedians of varying shapes, sizes and proficiency. It's all very jolly, ended up going to a birthday dinner with a bunch of total strangers last night, which ended up in Lebanese cookery and discussions about vampires, accents, Christopher Walken, two retellings of "The Aristocrats" (very creative, not particularly funny, served their purpose) and a fine tube ride home.
ADDENDUM: Just got home after 2 1/2 hours of buses, tubes, walking and cursing. Terrible gig, very rough venue. As the club manager said to me, "No, you did well, they didn't throw anything at you, so you did well." Felt bad for the German fellow on after me. After all, at least one guy booed me for not being English, so the German guy didn't stand a chance. 6/10.
