Rare Pair Fest 2017 Requests
Dear Author/Artist,
The ships below run rare even by rare pair standards, and I would be absolutely delighted to see new fanworks for any of them. If there’s something you’ve always wanted to create for any of these relationships, please go right ahead. I’m open to just about anything, and I can promise I’ll be excited to see whatever you come up with.
I’ve laid out some general likes and dislikes, as well as some jumping-off points in case you're looking for prompts. The listed order of the fandoms and relationships don’t reflect any preference. All genres and ratings are welcome.
Things I always enjoy:
- Slice-of-life vignettes and plotless porn
- Case-fic
- First meetings, first kisses, first sexual encounters
- Characters seeing each other in a new light
- Mistaken for a couple or undercover as lovers
- Confessions under the influence
- Touch hunger
- Informal D/s
- Hurt/comfort (heavy on the comfort)
- Backstory
- Taking characters out of their comfort zones, whether through dangerous situations, travel to new locations, role reversals, or other out-of-the-ordinary circumstances
- Unusual courtships or eccentric signs of friendship
- Characters bonding over a shared interest or introducing each other to new things
- A sense of time and place through historical or geographic detail
- Outsider PoV
- Food and drink, especially as a way of sharing culture or showing affection
- Music and dancing
Things I would rather not see:
- ‘On-screen’ rape (I’m fine with it being referenced as backstory)

Discworld
Sacharissa Cripslock/William de Worde/Otto von Chriek
I love these three as newspaper nerds and a team to be reckoned with in Ankh-Morpork. Do the trio fall into bed with each other after getting a difficult edition to press? Does Otto ever end up giving William that advice about women - or giving Sacharissa advice about men? Maybe a story or photograph leads to an unexpected revelation. Anything about their lives together would be wonderful.
His Dark Materials
Iorek Byrnison/Lee Scoresby
From their first meeting in Once Upon a Time in the North to the last scene they share in The Amber Spyglass, there is nothing I don't adore about Iorek and Lee's relationship. I'd particularly love to see anything set in the years between what happened in Novy Odense and Lyra's arrival in the north, whether it be an adventure they shared, the aftermath of Iorek's exile, or just a quiet night together.
Lackadaisy
Mordecai Heller/Viktor Vasko
There is so much hinted-at history and potential with these two. I'd love to know more about their time working together, or the conversation in which Mordecai tried to convince Viktor to retire, or what happens when they see each other again after Mordecai's defection to Marigold. What were their trips out of town together like? Did they ever find themselves discovering they're more alike than they thought? Was there a moment in their working relationship when they were caught in a tight situation and grew closer as a result - or came to respect each other, or fear each other, or do something foolish for each other?
Rocky Rickaby/Dorian "Zib" Zibowski
These two have a lot in common, not least the torches they’re carrying for Mitzi. I’d love to see them bonding over this and ending up each other’s consolation prize. I can imagine a shared joint loosening tongues and inhibitions, or Zib getting wasted enough to end up in lipstick and heels again, with Rocky thinking that’s just dandy. I’d also be interested to see them actually making music together or talking jazz.
Nero Wolfe
Archie Goodwin/Nero Wolfe
The relationship between these two is what makes this series so re-readable for me. I am always up for more of them being an old married couple, knowing each other too well, bickering, provoking, but ultimately being each other’s family. I’m especially interested in their early days together: their first meeting, Archie adjusting to the household, the household adjusting to Archie, and what made each of them think maybe this would work out. I have a soft spot for the gift-giving mentioned in the series and would love to see more about Archie and his card case or some other meaningful exchange. I also never say no to anything involving the kind of meals served at Nero Wolfe's table.
Archie Goodwin/Saul Panzer
This fandom is all about catering to my competency kink, and I really enjoy the contrast of Archie’s style and Saul’s more understated genius. I would love to see these two working on a case together in the city or out of town, or spending a day off together, or going dancing. I’m also very interested in Wolfe’s reaction to their relationship, or the rest of the household’s (or Archie and Saul's reactions to their reactions). Was there ever a time when Archie underestimated Saul and shouldn't have, or vice-versa? Has Saul ever won more than Archie's money at one of their poker games? Has Archie ever gotten Saul into a better suit? What does Saul play on that piano of his when Archie's over? Any scene of these two together is guaranteed to make me happy.

The way Heine and the princes have come to understand each other, the way the princes obviously adore and respect him, and the way the initial power dynamic gets turned on its head until the boys are cooking and cleaning for their commoner teacher is too charming for words. Anything with any of the Heine/prince(s) nominations above would make me happy. Bruno with his enormous crush deciding to take a page from The Master and Apprentice's Journey of the Heart and seeking some sexual education from his beloved teacher. Leonhard giving in to his desire to have Heine's attention and approval, or finding his starry-eyed weakness for Bruno's intelligence extending to Heine as well. Kai with his fondness for touching soft, cute creatures. Or, you know, all four of the princes falling into a puppy-pile orgy with their tutor. Future setting could be interesting too, with one or more of the princes finding a reason to keep Heine as part of the household after their education is complete.
Viktor von Granzreich/Heine Wittgenstein
There's a lifetime to explore with these two, and I would particularly love to see anything about their shared past in the years after the Harvest Festival or their present/future now that Heine is living in the palace. Did Viktor go to visit him at the church? What were their letters like, or their reunion over wine at the end of the fifth episode? Was Heine at Viktor's side during the war? How would the princes or the queen mother react to finding about the two of them?
