Agree with Mike on all points. We are programmed to act in self-interest by the wondrous process of evolution. On some basic level, everything comes back to that simple, undeniable fact of life. Even when you do something for someone else, the motivation is grounded in- survey says! - selfishness.

Has anyone else noticed that the system is slowly crumbling down around us? This, of course, is another inevitability of nature, and of mankind. Simple entropy- in nature, all systems are breaking down. Societies are built to fail, constructed merely so they can be torn down later. After all, destruction is a form of creation. I would be completely unsurprised if during my lifetime this country underwent dramatic change- whether in form of government, economic structure, or world status. Face it- this country is built on an intricate system of bullshit and lies, and it's all going to come crashing down. And I hope I'm there to see the show.

And no, I'm not some anarchist in fatigues living in a backwoods area talking to Jesus on my two-way. Anyone with common sense and a little instruction in the areas of science knows that total anarchy would not last. Eventually, it would be replaced by total order- such as a monarchy or dictatorship. Which is slightly worse than a bunch of Republicans.
