US Open Summary

Epic cuteness, and an epic ending. ♥ Would make a wonderful storyline for a book or a movie.

Seriously, though, with all the controversy and weather issues and questionable officiating of the last few days...the women's final was a major redeeming feature of this year's USO. Within the span of two weeks, Kim Clijsters goes from being an unranked wildcard to #19 in the world. :)

And then there's the men's side -- I like this JMDP kid; I really do. Maybe it's the Rafa-kike humility, or the classiness, or the fact that he's shy and awkward in a way that's at odds with his physical stature. Or, heck, maybe I just have a thing for the weepy ones. XD

He said in an interview somewhere that his idol is Marat Safin (is that wise, really? XD), and his win is a bit like Marat's from 2000. Despite the at times rather WTF-inducing officiating -- where is Pascal Maria when you need him? -- I thought the match was a nice one overall.

The 'I want to be like Roger' thing during the speech was cute. Also loved how he was actually holding the cup by its handles, as if he was afraid to touch it. Had no idea what he said in Spanish during the award ceremony, but the emotion there was evident. (Although, the way they tried to deny him permission to say it? That was completely absurd. o_0)

And oh, a bit of love, too, I suppose, to the other guy in this picture, who now owns the full collection of trophies and runner-up plates from all four majors. ^_^ I spent about two seconds bemoaning his tendency to choke away fifth sets, and then I remembered the Wimbledon final, and...yeah, it's not like anyone can win them all.

Nice to see the smile. ♥
