Jeff's almost done with his training for the Fitchburg fire department.  We had a family informational meeting there with the chief last night, which was entertaining.  The chief seems like a decent guy who appreciates that most of his department is made of volunteers with families and they can't make every call and doing family stuff is important too.  Things like that.

Since Jeff is almost done, this also means that he now has a pager.  He can respond to the station for a call and help get trucks ready, he just can't go along until he's passed his testing (which will likely be within the next week and a half or so).  The pager was pretty much quiet over the weekend, which made it going off at 2:30 this morning even more jarring.  Car accident with a pin, meaning someone stuck in the car.  Jeff didn't go in because he's alone at work today, but he guessed the accident had something to do with it being a half hour after bar time.

Madison.com reported on the accident this morning, stating one of the drivers involved in the accident was killed.  He hadn't been wearing his seat belt and alcohol was believed to be a factor.  The other had non-life threatening injuries.

This was after hearing about a nine-month old choking on a dime last night.

This will take a bit of getting used to, as will the incredibly loud pager.
