one-shot : mickey mouse complex
Five years old Nishikido Ryo had never been in love before he caught the sight of a cute, brown haired girl wearing the usual pink uniform of Johnny’s Kindergarten.
“Who’s she?” Ryo asked Yamapi who is busy playing with his new controlled car.
“I don’t know. Why don’t you ask her.” Yamapi answered half-heartedly. Ryo huffed while eyeing the car in disgust. Yamapi had been neglecting him since his father bought that stupid toy. He won’t even let Ryo touched it.
“Alright then. You continue playing with your toy. I’m going to get myself a girlfriend!” He said and yes, that’s coming from a kindergarten boy. What an early lover Ryo is.
That afternoon, he tried to approach her but she was being surrounded by so many girls by the time Ryo arrived. Being the shy boy he used to be, Ryo couldn’t just go inside the circle and interrupted their conversation.
So he decided to wait until she’s alone to offer her the Barbie doll he randomly picked on the floor..
“Hi! My name is Uchi Hiroki. What’s your name?” That’s weird. Ryo thought he heard Uchi’s voice from that corner.
Turning around, Ryo found himself gaping at the sight of Uchi trying to seduce his future girlfriend.
“Just call me Tat-chan.” Owh, dear. Her voice is like an angel. Just like her perfect Barbie-like face, and lips, and nose and eyes..wait! Ryo must barge in to prevent Uchi from snatching the girl from him.
“Alright kids! Gather around. It’s time for story-telling!” Kimura Sensei suddenly said while opening his big book.
Urgh. Ryo always hate story-telling time.
That day, Kimura Sensei told a story about a girl with 3 bears. The rest of the story was unknown to Ryo since he kept gazing at the brown-haired girl who was sitting 2 rows from him.
“Okay~ I’ll teach you a bear song now~” The other kids jumped off in excitement as Ryo just reluctantly get up and sing along.
There are 3 bears inside the jungle,
Papa bear, mama bear, baby bear,
Papa bear is so big,
Mama bear is so slim,
Baby bear is too cute,
Ryo suddenly had an image of him, the brown haired girl and their Barbie doll. They could play marriage game together someday. Ryo would pretend to go to work while the brown haired girl stays at home to cook dinner and take care of the doll.
Papa bear, mama bear, baby bear~
He suddenly sang it out loud, receiving laughter from the other kids since the song ended a while ago. Even the brown haired girl stared at him with weird look.

“Why you sing the bear song just now?” Uchi asked while sipping down his milk. It was already lunch break where the two boys sit on one corner to eat their macaroni and cheese.
Ryo, still very upset about Uchi’s move on the girl just shrugged off his shoulder and kept quiet.
He was about to dig in his meal when he realized that his best friend had went missing. Where’s Uchi?
“Will you eat carrot with me, Tat-chan?”
WHAT??? Ryo couldn’t believe what he just heard and saw. Uchi is definitely picking up on his girl and he won’t let that action go any further!
“Hey Uchi! Stop scaring her! She doesn’t want to eat with you!” Ryo was only meant to chase Uchi away, but in the process of doing so, he stumbled and fell onto the girl. The sheep plushie that she was holding swung across the room.
The girl immediately cried out loud while shouting the name of her sheep. “Eri-chaaaan~!”
Once again, like a hero from the fairytale stories, Uchi came to the rescue with the plushie in his hands. “Here you go, Tat-chan. Don’t cry anymore, ne..” She took the stuffed toy and gave Uchi her best smile.
“Thank you, Uchi-chan!”
Ryo was extremely annoyed to see this. But he could just pout and ran away. His tears started to form from the corner of his eyes.
“I hate you Uchi!!”
That’s it. Just like that, the five years old Ryo-chan got his first ever heartbreak.

Much to his surprise though, the cute girl came towards him while he was busy making a sandcastle few days later.
“Um, sorry about the fall. I shouldn’t cry and scare you away.” She said softly, her eyes were bright and pretty as always.
Ryo blinked in return.
“It’s okay. It was my fault after all.”
"Un. Okay then. See you later, Ryo-chan!”
“Okay.” He smiled and waved her goodbye.
Wait. Did she just call me ‘Ryo-chan’?? Owh, Owh..! She called me Ryo-chan!! She knows my name!!
“She called me Ryo-chan, you know.” He said proudly while flashing his white teeth. They were supposed to be having a nap but Ryo just couldn’t wait to tell Uchi about that.
“I don’t believe you.”
“I don’t care! She’s my girlfriend now. Don’t you dare to go near her!”
“Prove it!” Uchi said.
“Alright! I’ll ask her!”
Ryo was about to touch the girl’s backside to ask her when Domoto Sensei saw him and shouted. “Nishikido Ryo! What are you trying to do?!”
Ah. Poor Ryo-chan. He had been labeled as a bad boy since the incident.

It was the time to visit Tokyo Disneyland when he battle between the two best friends heated up.
“I’ll ask her out to go with me to the Disneyland!” Ryo screamed at Uchi’s face.
“I’ll ask her to be my Minnie!”
“That’s not possible! She’s my Minnie!”
“No! Mine!”
“Mine!”
“Mine!!!”
“Hey, why are you two fighting?” It was the angelic voice of Tat-chan. They turned to look at her; Choose now, they said inside their heart. Me or him?
But, wait. There’s something different in Tat-chan that day. Her face was cute as usual. So does her straight brown hair. But she’s wearing a navy blue short with baby blue shirt. Not the usual pink dress that complements her fair skin.
“Why are you wearing the boy’s uniform?” Uchi asked her.
“Owh, Kimura Sensei asked me to change my uniform since I’m a boy after all.” Tat-chan laughed at ‘her’ own words.
“A ….BOY??!!” That would be impossible, Ryo thought. Tat-chan is the cutest girl in their kindergarten. She couldn’t be a boy!! She’s supposed to be his girlfriend! His Minnie Mouse!
“My Mommy dressed me in girl’s uniform since she thought I look cute in that dress. Also because she always wanted a baby girl. But then Kimura Sensei saw my report card and figured out that I’m a boy. So he asked me to change my uniform.” Tat-chan said casually, as if nothing really matters to him.
“What did you guys was fighting about, anyway?”
“Er. Mickey Mouse. He said he couldn’t figure out the difference between Mickey and Minnie. They look almost the same. It’s just that Minnie’s wearing the bow and dress and Mickey’s not. I was just trying to explain that to him. That’s all, no such thing as fighting.”
“Owh. Okay then. See you in the Disneyland! Ja ne!”
Ryo and Uchi could only look at each other in frustration and scratch their heads.
“Mickey and Minnie. They kinda look the same, ne…”
