Chapter 10 (final)

“This is Masayuki Ando from TV7, reporting live from Tokyo Prison. Nishikido Ryo, the son of the late Nishikido Hideo of the biggest communication company in Japan is finally released from jail today. He had been found guilty on killing a guy and now after 5 years of imprisonment, he’s finally a free man again. Owh, there he is!”

Hundreds of reporters came rushing down towards Ryo, as flash lights of the cameras blinded him.

“How are you feeling now, Nishikido-san?”

“Are you planning on taking back the corporation from Yamashita Tomohisa-san?”

“Did you know that Nishikido Corp. had been involved in a serious debt soon after Yamashita-san took over?”

Ryo sighed heavily but he still smiled to the broadcasting people.

“I’m sorry. I won’t answer any of your questions.” He simply said as he made his way to the open road, finally inhaled his freedom.

5 years had taught him a lot. Ryo learned on how to survive by himself. He learned on being tough, not just physically but also mentally.

But most of all, he learned to miss someone so precious to his heart.

Tatsuya. Never once did he visit Ryo in the prison but the younger man kept hoping that he would. After all, 5 years would be such a long period. But no. Tatsuya didn’t come until the last day of his imprisonment.

He didn’t know why. Maybe the other still has some hatred towards him. Ryo wouldn’t blame anyone for that. Tatsuya has all the right to hate him, but deep inside, Ryo hopes that there’s still some space for him inside Tatsuya’s heart.

Maybe, someday. He thought as he let his feet decide on where he should go next.

***

It had been awkward for him on the first time. He never even fries an egg before, but now he’s working at a ramen restaurant, preparing on hundreds of noodles everyday.

It’s tiring, yes, but somehow Ryo enjoys his life now more than before.

Strange, but doing something that we love had always given more satisfaction. Ryo had decided that he loves making ramen very much. He might as well open a ramen shop someday in the near future.

Ryo heard the sound of ringing bell, signaling him on the arrival of a new customer.

“Welcome to our shop~ what do you want for lunch today, Sir?” He’s still pretty much preoccupied by his work that he doesn’t bother to look at the customer in front of him.

“Doesn’t matter. Just put a lot of sauce in it.”

That voice. Ryo quickly turned to look at the source of the voice and his eyes meet the other’s ever beautiful brown orbs.

Mesmerized. That’s the only word to sum up his feelings as he takes a deep breath.

“Tatsuya..”

The copper-haired man smiles his sweetest smile at him. Nothing has changed since the day Ryo left for the prison, except for the well-tailored suit and a pair of glasses.

“You’re a clerk, now?” Ryo couldn’t help but to ask on the other’s changes of style. Tatsuya only laughed back at him.

“No, silly. I’m an actor now. I got an offer to act as a lawyer, my first lead character. Now I’m on my lunch break.”

“Owh.” It’s the only words that Ryo could let out. He’s too shock to even ask why or how. Oh well, it is Tatsuya’s life anyway. As long as he’s happy with his present job.

“Did you read the newspaper today?” Tatsuya fixes his glasses, eyes still looking at Ryo.

“No. What about it?”

“Yamashita killed himself due to the pressure of the company’s failure. Looks like being a CEO are not everyone’s job.”

Ryo sighed. Yamapi had always been a great cousin and buddy to him. To hear such terrible news happened to his dear friend broke his heart, even when Yamapi is the one that was responsible for Ohkura’s death. Yes, Ryo finally knew the truth when his cousin came to visit him right before his release. He doesn’t know why the other decided to tell him the truth; maybe the same nightmare that he experienced before came haunting Yamapi too.

Silence strikes them after that as the sound of clashing dishes fills the room.

“You look…thin. Didn’t they feed you enough there?” Tatsuya suddenly asks, eyes full with sadness.

“You never once visit me in the prison.” He put a glass in front of Tatsuya and later hands a bowl of ramen to him.

“I tried. But I couldn’t. I’m afraid I will cry in front of you if I saw you there.” He blows softly on the hot ramen and eat them slowly. “This is delicious.” He smiles at Ryo.

“Tatsuya…”

The younger one takes a deep look inside his eyes, his glare piercing through the thick glasses.

“That day..at your apartment..Did you really forgive me?” Remembering every bit of the warmth he felt on that said event brought a bitter smile to Ryo’s face.

“You’ve already received your punishment.” The other simply said, sipping his tea while looking outside the broad window.

“Tatsuya, you’re not answering my question.”

The man in black suit quickly tossed several notes onto the desk, ready to leave. Ryo noticed the look of mercy in his face while he curves his ever charming lips.

“Got to go now. See you later, ne..”

Just as simple as that, Ryo knew that he had been forgiven.

“I miss you.” He faintly murmurs, hoping that Tatsuya wouldn’t hear his words. Still afraid on breaking the other’s heart all over again.

He is about to walk inside the restaurant’s staff room when he hears Tatsuya’s dim voice, saying, “I miss you too.”

And he finally understands that somehow, he has managed to fix the broken pieces of the other’s heart.

It’s time to fix his.
