Dream !! 8 !! Part 1

Mar 29, 2009 23:25

((OOC: This is the first part and mostly has Asch in it... Niou and Estelle have more of a leading role in the next part(s)! This plays like a movie and the narrator is Kyon, and, yes, all narration is audible! The choppy writing style is me trying to mimic the novels (and probably failing). It all takes place in Haruhi's world and everyone is wearing the uniform for North High School. Uh... if you do read... Enjoy!))

The clubroom has been quiet lately. I'm not sure if I should be relieved or worried. Is it just the calm before the storm? With Haruhi you can never know.

Regardless, I've found myself wondering why I still come here everyday. I should definitely get some kind of hobby. Asahina-san and Koizumi don't even drop by anymore.

However, despite how bored I've been randomly surfing the Internet on the club's computer, it seems to have paid off. The door slams open and in come Haruhi and Nagato-san.

Where have you been!? I want to yell at her. But she'd just shrug it off and carry on with business as usual.

“So!” she exclaims, a bright smile on her face. “I've decided that the SOS-Dan needs some sprucing up! Operations will commence tomorrow! That is all!”

I watch dumbfounded as she turns around and leaves. That's it? You've been gone for how long and that's all you say?

I'm a little scared about what she meant by 'sprucing up' though.

The next day I go to the clubroom and am welcomed by Nagato-san in her usual chair, reading the book I gave Haruhi the last time I saw her, and Asahina-san in her maid outfit. Koizumi sits in his usual chair as well, an Othello game ready.

Thinking 'I might as well,' I sit down and begin to play with him.

It isn't too far into the game that I hear footsteps. A lot of them. Turning, I see Haruhi enter the room with three other people on her trail.

“Look! New members!”

Yes, I can see that. However, exactly how willing are they?

“This is Asch, Estelle, and Niou!” She quickly introduces the rest of us as “the book ornament,” “the mascot,” “the mysterious transfer student,” and “the everyday one, Kyon”.

Then leaves.

I stand up to shake their hands. “Sorry about that,” I try to explain to them. Introducing us all properly, I accidentally refer to myself as Kyon. It's sad in a way.

But, now that they begin to settle in, I take a better look at them.

It seems Haruhi has kidnapped more upperclassmen and this time it's Asch and Sidos-san. Asch looks kind of frightening. He has the type of expression that says clearly 'don't mess with me' and shocking red hair. It's long, too, maybe even longer than Asahina-san's. He has a reputation, as well, for being a very strong and stubborn person. It's amazing he's even here.

Sometimes Haruhi scares me, the things she can do.

Sidos-san, however... well, her cute demeanour is almost a rival to Asahina-san's! She sits between Asch and Masaharu almost like a buffer, her eyes flitting about the room as she examines everything with a worried glance. She seems to be the type of person who's much too innocent to get involved with the type of things Haruhi has in store. She smiles shyly at everyone, inviting them to be friends. It's too cute!

I can kind of see why Haruhi brought her here.

Masaharu is in our grade and, to my knowledge, isn't very personable to those outside his club. He slouches in his chair and studies the manga and anime on the shelf, not too concerned about having been brought here. I can see him getting along with Haruhi on occasion, but, this is all speculation.

Eventually, the time comes for everyone to pack up and leave. The room is kind of crowded now, compared to just myself, so it's a bit of a relief.

The next day, I'm sitting with Haruhi at lunch. It's strange for her to stick around for so long but I'm not really complaining. When she sits there quietly eating you can almost pretend she's cute in the same way as other girls.

As I'm finishing my sandwich I see a familiar red head at the door.

“Oh, is that Asch?”

It's honestly surprising to see an upperclassmen come to our classroom at lunch. I'm not the only one to turn and stare. Haruhi looks up after I speak and hurries over to him.

“Oh, Asch! Hi~!”

He seems embarrassed, but it might be because of how familiar she is with him or the way she's brought everyone's attention to them.

“It's about your club...” he says hesitantly. Wow! He really is brave! All those rumours are well placed, it seems, if he can stare down Haruhi like that.

“Kendo club, right?” she says, and I'm startled. She got someone from the Kendo club?!

“Quit it.” Is what she tells him, straight on.

He looks visibly flustered now.

“I can't.”

If flatly telling her could do anything, do you think any of us would be in this club?

“I'm sure there's some kind of compromise...”

I'm not really sure why you're going to compromise at all!

“Fine,” she says. “You can go to your club two days a week!”

That's not even half!

He's pulled away by Masaharu before anything else can be said.

After school, everyone assembles in the club room except for Asch and Masaharu. Speaking of which, does Asch even have a last name? Maybe he's just that frightening.

Halfway through the designated club time, Asch walks in. Haruhi looks up from the computer, annoyed.

“Where have you been?!”

Your yelling isn't going to make him less late!

Laying his shinai to the side, Asch sits down in the chair at the end of the table. You have to admire his ability to keep cool.

“I was at the Kendo club.”

“Today wasn't a Kendo day!” she announces and I'm sure it's for the first time.

“I can't exactly quit so easily... I am the Captain.”

Wait, what?! Did you just say you're the Kendo club's Captain!? Who exactly are you abducting, Haruhi?! Don't you know this is one of the strongest people at our school? That he's led North High School's Kendo team to victory even in his first year? That he took over the title of Captain in his second year, despite the fact that there were others with more seniority?

“You can't pull the Kendo club's Captain into your silly club!” I argue. It seems futile but I have to try. This is my very little school spirit showing!

“Sure I can!”

“B-but doesn't Asch-san have a sports scholarship?” asks Asahina-san, pouring tea for everyone. Great! Now Haruhi is ruining someone's chances at post-secondary education!? Is there nothing sacred to you, Haruhi?

It's almost more unbelievable that Asch is putting up with this!

“Wow! That's really impressive, Asch-kun!” says Sidos-san, beaming at him. It almost makes me wish I was on a sports team and getting a scholarship!

But, wait, there are more important things!

“Why do you want Asch for the SOS-Dan anyway?” I ask. It's a reasonable question. If she can't think of a good enough reason we may be able to help him escape!

“It's obvious isn't it?”

If it was obvious I wouldn't ask!

“We needed a strong stoic character!”

How can that even be considered a reason? Is there no such thing as logic in that brain of yours?!

Asch looks visibly disappointed. What, did you want something more significant?

Sidos-san quickly comes to the rescue, however, and asks, “Is that the only reason? I'm sure there's plenty of other traits about Asch-kun that would make him a good member!”

“Of course! It's because of his looks and athletic ability! He could definitely help raise SOS-Dan membership with females! After doing some research I found out that he's really popular with girls even though he's never had a girlfriend. He has good grades and, as you know, is a very prominent member of his club.”

Asch, why is your face red? Don't tell me this is a compliment! She wants to use you to get more members!

In the end, Haruhi told Asch to just “use his free time for practice!”.

This is his free time!

That was such an amusing dream! I've only ever seen Estelle in passing, though... On the Dreamberry, maybe? But I should definitely consider her for membership!
