 incorrect usage of the phrase "contrary to popular opinion"

example: in the comments of something I was looking at the other day (probably the lj film stills community), some guy said "contrary to popular opinion, I really like this movie" (or something like that). and I wanted to be like "oh really? most people think that you hate this movie? because I'm willing to bet that most of the people in the world have no idea whether or not you like this movie." but I held back. which is why you are hearing about it now. sorry.
