I'll start off :

Circles of Power by mad_martha.

I had no idea it was possible! It was long and plotty and Ron was grumpy and utterly smitten and protective and Harry was baffled and tentative and self-sacrificing.

And there was a chapter called Cry God for Harry.

Thank you, mad_martha, you changed and I think you probably saved my life, or at least saved my husband's...

The first fic I ever read was a Harry/Ron but I have no idea about the name or author. It would have been on fanfiction.net around 2001 and was positively filthy so I doubt it survived the smut cull.

And boy was it smutty. There was quick, fumbling dormitory sex between them and it was so beautiful. I read it over and over and I remember the font and everything. Slightly smudged from my friend Charlotte's crappy printer. I got it at the same time as I got a positively filthy Bill/Charlie. I was 14 amd that was a very hot introduction to fictional incest.

And now both ships are still favourites, 14 years on!

I came to Harry/Ron fanfic from a slightly different angle; when I first peeked into Ye Darke Pitt of fanfiction (inevitably Fanfiction.net back then) there was very little Harry/Ron at all. Mostly it was an echoing wasteland of Harry/Draco, Snape/Neville, and Seamus/Dean.

Yes, I know it's hard to believe, but back in 2001/2002, Seamus/Dean and Snape/Neville were bigger 'ships than Harry/Ron, at least on Fanfiction.net.

So I ended up writing my own, but that's a different story.

However, there were a few twinkling diamonds of Harry/Ron authors even back then, and the ones that immediately spring to mind were keelywolfe who wrote A Lacking In Foresight (which I'm sure you've all read multiple times, because it is utterly huggable) and skylark97, AKA Kimagure, who wrote the equally huggable Closet Fears (sorry, that one goes to FF.net, because I can't find another copy of it). There was also "The Sound of Silence" by CobraGirl, which sadly has long since disappeared from the Net, and "Deal With The Devil" by Jadea, also now gone

I shipped Harry/Ron from the first time I read the books and it was the reason I went looking for Potter Fanfic. I can't remember what it was that I found first. I had already been using LJ for years so I think the first thing I found was on LJ. I read fanfic in many other places for earlier fandoms of mine but Potter was my first LJ fandom.

I know we found mad_martha early on and I think Matilda Bishop's fic and umm maybe Aniwde. I can't remember. I suck at names and stuff and Ruth is in the other side of the house.
