Claiming Post Round 1

Nov 24, 2009 13:35

First off, this will be the first round of claiming, we are giving authors still signed up till November 30th to get in a rough draft. So on November 30th at 1pm PST we will have a second round of claiming. Any fics unclaimed in this round will be included in that one.

These are the fics we have for sure from some truly amazing authors. We have 14 fics up for grabs. Claiming is by a first come, first served basis. Once all 14 fics have been claimed we will reopen them for a second artist claim. We want to have each artist work in a different medium, so ideally a fic will be claimed by one artist that uses Photoshop and another who draws.

Please comment with the following to claim a fic:

Title: On Wrackspurts and Pumpkin Pies
Type: gen (with some het and slight slash elements)
Rating: PG-13
Characters/Pairings: Luna Lovegood, Gregory Goyle, Ginny Weasley, others
Warnings character deaths
Summary:

Scenes from the lives, diversions, and intersections of Gregory Goyle and Luna Lovegood, between the years of 1980 and 2008, covering various moments from where they began to where they ended up, showing how they got there (and what it had to do with Ginny Weasley) including first friends, first magic, wands, schooling, jobs, births, deaths, and relationships.

Notes: Epilogue compliant I think, including canon relationships; there's also some Luna/Ginny and Neville/Luna in this, but they're not the focus.

#2
Title:From Ashes
Type: slash
Rating:PG-13
Characters/Pairings:past Harry/Charlie, current Charlie/Draco, hints of future Harry/Draco Warnings No explicit sexual content, although it's clear that people are sleeping together (behind closed doors). Possibly a swear word or two, if it seemed appropriate in the dialogue, but certainly not much. Character death occurs "off-screen" (at least in this draft--we'll see what my betas say), and is neither violent nor unexpected; the character coping with a terminal illness is central to the story, but I don't give a lot of detail. The story is more about how life goes on around that.
Summary: A directionless Harry receives an Owl from Charlie, asking for help at the dragon reserve. Harry had worked there with Charlie in the two years after the end of the war, and had a brief relationship with Charlie at the time. Harry goes, thinking that Charlie is only temporarily short-staffed. When he arrives, Charlie's assistant and boyfriend, Marcus, is perfectly healthy and less than happy to meet Harry. Charlie is the one who is sick.
Harry helps out on the reserve. When Marcus' glamour slips, Charlie reveals to Harry that his boyfriend is really Draco Malfoy. The next day, working with Draco-as-Marcus is awkward, but Harry manages. An event on the reserve brings them closer, despite Harry's concerns. Harry is starting to question Charlie's motivations. That night, Harry accidentally reveals that he knows who Draco is. In the morning, when he and Charlie are alone, Charlie reveals that he brought Harry to the reserve because he wants someone to look after Draco when he's gone. Harry pressures Charlie to let his family know about his terminal illness. He's been afraid that they'll make him leave the reserve, and he's also trying to protect Draco.
Harry confronts Draco. They agree that Charlie needs his family with him, and that they'll work together to see Charlie through this. After Charlie's death (not in the story), Harry and Draco return to Romania. Harry is doing his best to do what Charlie wants--taking care of Draco. They may or may not end up together. There's an attraction there, but there's a lot between them to deal with, not the least of which is the loss of Charlie. Harry's willing to wait.
Notes:It's angsty at times, because of the subject matter, but certainly not the whole thing. It's written from Harry's point of view (third person), and relatively few scenes have Charlie in them at all; the ones that do tend to be upbeat. I tried to include some nice visual moments, with the dragons and the activity on the dragon reserve.

Title:Hearts Open (at the Close)
Type: slash
Rating: NC-17
Characters/Pairings: Draco/Harry
Warnings sexual context, dub-con bordering on non-con, strong language, suggestion of mental imbalance
Summary: Harry wins the war and loses himself. It’s Draco’s job to heal him, but that might just be impossible. Especially after Harry takes matters into his own hands.
Notes:I’m extremely proud of this piece for a number of reasons. I really hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. Thanks, as always, to my amazing betas and first reader.

Title: The Young & The Restless
Type: Slash
Rating: NC-17 (just)
Characters/Pairings: Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy, (RW/HG, NL/GW)
Warnings: Sexual content, characters engaged in graphic sexual situations are 16.
Summary: 6th year AU. Boredom has set in at Hogwarts. Harry’s life becomes a lot less boring when he ends up sitting next to Draco Malfoy in class - maybe there’s another subject they could study together... As serious as things get, the two continue to deny their feelings about each other, until Ron discovers just who’s captured The Boy Who Lived’s body, if not his heart. This is full of Hogwart’s era clichés: sneaking around, invisibility cloak, mistaken identity, classroom smut, dorm smut, ignorant friends and unexpected (public) revelations. There’s plenty of description of action and settings, although there’s very little plot...
Notes: This is 17.3k of mostly fluffy smut -a good thing, no? *nods* I started this fic ages ago (and it shows), so if you’re looking for quality, look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a thinly veiled excuse to get to the good bits, this is the fic for you! HUGE thanks and a date with the Edmund Blackadder of your choice to my beta delphipsmith. And much love goes out to alovelycupoftea and cassie_black12 for being the best cheerleaders this side of Dallas.

Title: The Mass of Men
Type: Slash (with a brief het cameo)
Rating: R
Characters/Pairings: Draco Malfoy/Teddy Lupin, implied unrequited Draco/Harry, and background Draco/Astoria and Harry/Ginny
Warnings Some graphic slash and het content. Uh, adultery? But all married parties know/accept the affairs.

Summary: After the war, the Ministry forms a parole program for former Death Eaters who committed lesser crimes. Fifteen years have passed since his trial, but Draco Malfoy still finds himself pushing papers in a minor Ministry office, trying to lead a quiet life for the sake of his wife, his son, and restoring some semblance of respectability to the Malfoy name.
Our story begins when a subclause in his parole contract requires Draco to participate in the Ministry Summer Internship Program, and he's stuck babysitting one recent Hogwarts graduate for six weeks. Theodore Lupin quickly proves himself to be a typical hard-headed Gryffindor, immediately reminding Draco of Harry for both his good and bad qualities. Seeing his life through Theodore's eyes, Draco finds himself reassessing his reasons for enrolling in the parole program in the first place. Is erasing the stigma of his former life as a Death Eater (even if it means the slightest chance of gaining the respect of Potter) worth living such an utterly boring life, especially one where Draco has zero power except in his own head? Draco indulges himself in a brief affair with Theodore, ultimately deciding that the risk is worth the reward, but struggles with the consequences he's sure are coming, from his wife, from his mother, from the parole board, and from Harry Potter. But when no retribution comes, Draco is forced to acknowledge that the only close scrutiny he's under, and the high expectations piled onto him, have been his own. He then must come to terms with the fact that he's had some power to change his circumstances all along, and why he's never acted on them before.
A more detailed list of scenes: Draco works in tiny cubicle at the Ministry, secretly lusts after receptionist, meets Theodore. Theodore reminds Draco of both his wife Astoria and Harry Potter. Draco reminisces about meeting/courting Astoria at fancy Death Eater parties (read: het sex scene). Draco dreams about Harry Potter, his Death Eater trial, signing the contract, and vanishing cabinets. He tries to be a model citizen, but Theodore is a persistent flirt. Draco finally has semi-public sex with Theodore at a Ministry gala. Draco discovers Theodore's ties to Harry via old issues of Astoria's gossip rags. Angst ensues; Draco avoids Theodore at the office. Draco visits his mother and receives some indirect, unexpected advice. Draco takes a bath to think things over, and hears Astoria's advice and blessing. Draco recommends Theodore for the Auror program, where the boy belongs.

Notes: Title taken from Thoreau: "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." This is a rough rough draft; it still even has a few notes tucked in there for myself. I'm planning on overhauling the whole thing, adding a few scenes and rewriting large portions of it. Unfortunately I didn't get as much of that done before NaNoWriMo as I'd hoped. At this point I am planning to include all scenes I've described in this email, though, and would say I'm 90% finished.

Title:Leftover
Type: slash, het
Rating:R
Characters/Pairings:Draco/Blaise Draco/Cormack McClaggen Blaise/OFC Draco/Theo Nott mentioned
Warnings Character Death, sexual content intended but not in the rough draft, AU from the beginning of book 6
Summary: Instead of handing their son over to Voldemort Narcissa and Lucius make the decision to protect Draco even though they know that it will likely be at the cost of their lives. While coming to terms with his father's imprisonment, his mother's vanishing Draco falls in love with Blaise, who seems not to reciprocate his feelings, and flirts with Gryffindor Cormack McClaggen to distract himself.
During the Christmas vacations when his and Blaise relationship finally seem to come to a certain stage, Draco has to deal with his fatther's and his mother's deaths and soon it becomes clear that Blaise is playing with Draco's entangled emotions.

Title: A Winter's Tale
Type: het
Rating: High R
Characters/Pairings: Teddy/Lily (Minor Harry/Ginny and past Teddy/Victoire)
Warnings sexual situations, minor language, age difference (Teddy is 29, Lily is 19)
Summary: Teddy Lupin has been single for about a year. He's recovered from his failed relationship with Victoire, but his life still isn't where he wants it to be. He's developed feelings for Lily over the course of the year, knowing that the consequences of such a relationship could cost him everything that's important to him, specifically relationships with the family he loves more than anything.

When Teddy's life takes a positive turn and he suddenly has everything he could ever want, his own insecurities come out. He's forced to take a look at everything around him, and decide if it's all worth it. Teddy needs to realize if a relationship with Lily can really work, or if it's all doomed from the start.
Notes: A million thanks to my beta, lemondrop34, for her brilliant work and for holding my hand through writing such a rare pairing. I couldn't have done it without her.

#8
Title: Getting Him Back
Type: slash, AU
Rating: NC-17 (or M if you prefer)
Characters/Pairings: Remus/Harry/Sirius
Warnings AU, threesome, sexual content, religious content (Wiccan), a little bit of strong language, could be considered chan (Harry is 15 when the story starts, 16 at the time of the sexual content)
Summary: An alternate sixth year story where Remus and Harry decide to rescue Sirius from the veil at all costs. Through a series of rituals and some new magic they will find their goal may actually be attainable by the end of the year. The rituals come from actual Wiccan rituals for the holidays of Samhein, Yule, and Beltane, although some pieces were added in order to make them fit with what I was using them for.
This story also includes a slightly manipulative Dumbledore who disapproves of Remus and Harry's plans. It introduces the concept of horcrii (plural of horcrux). There are also mentions of other canon characters, most notably Snape, as well as Ron and Hermione. It is a threesome (Sirius/Harry/Remus).
Notes: This story sort of came out of nowhere nearly fully formed and I am glad I have a chance to show it off to someone

Title: Sink Or Swim.
Type: slash
Rating: NC17
Characters/Pairings: Harry/Draco.
Warnings Sexual content, strong language.
Summary:

When Harry is confined to desk duty with magical exhaustion and Draco
for bending the rules one time too many, Shacklebolt gets fed up of
them cluttering up the Auror office. Instead he enters them in the
swimming races at the Wizarding Olympics, a sports event planned to
celebrate the opening of Hogwarts’ new sports centre. Harry’s a
swimming teacher after all - surely it’s the perfect solution?

It would be, if Malfoy could swim. Which he can’t. So Harry’s got two
months to teach Draco how to swim and be able to race in the Wizarding
Olympics. After all, Kingsley’s counting on them to uphold the
reputation of the Auror Corps, and getting beaten by a team of office
workers would be rather embarrassing…

Will Harry and Draco be able to cope with training together every day
for two months without killing each other? Will Kingsley do it for
them if they don’t win the races? It’s time to sink or swim….

Notes:
The premise from this story was taken from an unclaimed prompt from
hd_smoochfest 2009, which the mods released into the wild after the
fest ended.

Title: Break of Dawn
Type: Slash, Het, Threesome, au, dimension travel
Rating: M
Characters/Pairings: Luna/Neville/Harry, Luna/Neville, James/Lily, Alice/Frank, Xeno/Soleil, Harry/Regulus, Remus/Sirius
Warnings War, violence, minor character death
Summary: After seven years, the Light side makes a last stand. At the last battle, Magic comes alive and grants Harry, Luna and Neville's greatest desire by sending them to another dimension. This dimension has had peace for the last twenty-one years, when Voldemort died after killing the Boys-Who-Saved-Us. Faced with parents and siblings, the trio struggles to adapt to peacetime and the idea of having parents and loved ones who are alive and well. The greatest question they have is what caused the divergence? After some research, they figure it out: it all hinges on one Regulus Black. Regulus lived when he died in their dimension.

Of course, just because they now have peace, doesn't meant everything is well. The Potters, Longbottoms and Lovegoods are excited to have them as part of their family, but feelings of disloyalty to their parents who had died in their dimension cause tensions. Then, they have to adjust to peacetime. Luna and Neville begin to pull back from Harry as lovers, something he sees and understands. After the two get engaged, James, Sirius and Remus go to comfort Harry and find him finally willing to talk a bit more in detail about his past. They are horrified by what they discover. They had known he had a hard life but the war he fought in was so much worse. Flashbacks to the past, including his break with Hermione and the Weasleys and just why Luna and Neville followed him into the unknown.

To make matters worse, the few remaining Death Eaters, those who had served their sentence and were freed, or who had never been successfully tried, decide that if Harry and Neville had come back, then their Lord can too. First step? Freeing those Death Eaters in Azkaban. The Order reforms and Harry, Luna and Neville revert to battle mode. As they fight with the Order on how to recapture the escapees, they realize that they are truly in a different dimension and need to adjust to it. Harry begins to develop a relationship with Regulus Black as they are partnered to research ways to stop the escapees and their plans.
Notes: I have two more parts to write, which I estimate to be an additional 10K or so. This is selectively canon. There were horcruxes but Snape told Voldemort that Harry was searching for them after Dumbledore's death, so Voldemort rounded them up and hid them all over the world. Snape is not a good guy. Harry, Hermione and Ron did go camping and try to find the Horcruxes but there was no final battle at the end of the year. The school never reopened after Dumbledore's death. It became a Light stronghold until it fell. After Harry figured out that Voldemort had hidden the horcruxes, he decided to rejoin the light and told some select members of the Order about them. They began to train him. He eventually traveled the world both to find them and to learn obscure magics. Others often accompanied him.

Title: As Black As Coal and As Bright As Emeralds
Type: Slash
Rating: R
Characters/Pairings:Harry/Draco, Ron/Hermione, Blaise/Pansy
Warnings (sexual context, non-con, violence, strong language, characters death - if there is anything in your fic potential artists should be warned about include it) This features muggle!Harry, Wizard/Palmist!Draco, mentions of soul mates, all in a very Alternate Universe.
Summary:Draco's mother once brought him to a Festival where a muggle fortune-teller told him that his soul mate will have hair as black as coal and eyes as bright as emeralds. Draco, skeptical of soulmates or any type of magic a muggle could produce, didn't quite believe her. Years later, Draco is a distinguished Wizard deep into the art of Palmistry. More, he's looking for someone-- and it doesn't matter that the one he's looking for so resembles the person the fortune teller once told him about: his soulmate.

Title: The Artifice
Type: gen, friendship, suspense (hints of romance--continuation will hold some)
Rating: teen friendly; strong language present, but no nastiness
Characters/Pairings: Cedric/Hermione friendship (at this point)
Warnings strong language (barely...), non-canon?... (do I have to warn about that?...)
Summary: For just this piece?...
Cedric Diggory, distraught at having no plan for facing a dragon during the Tri-Wizard Tournament, allows himself to trust a strange, black diary with a man's presence inside it named Tom Riddle. He and Tom figure out a plan to distract the dragon (Hermione interrupts their conversation and distracts Cedric quite sweetly). When Cedric succeeds in his task, he is overjoyed and decides to stick with Tom and his advice for the rest of the year despite his constant doubt in the diary. (Yes, Tom is still quite evil, manipulative, and all-around wicked. : ))

Summary I would LIKE to use, sans spoilers:

Cedric Diggory wants nothing other than to survive through the tournament that he can take lightly no more. Unexpected second parties agree with his goal and begin to help him in his plight. However… just who is it that can really help him? The faceless benefactor who has taught him the importance of a ruse… or the girl whose hair is as unmanageable as her worry? Who can Cedric depend on when he doesn’t think he can depend on himself? Throw in a bit of romance, drama, and a mysterious diary and you’ve got the makings for an exceptional sixth year at Hogwarts for this Hufflepuff.

Notes:This story is NOT finished as is. I plan to continue it, but not for this community (I would NEVER get done).

Oh, and, if my "detailed" (ha) summary sucks (as in, artists won't be able to quite understand it) I would definitely appreciate an adequate overhaul. : )

Title: Playing for Keeps
Type: slash, femmeslash, het, incest, smut
Rating: R
Characters/Pairings: Albus/James, Albus/Scorpius, James/Albus/Scorpius, Victoire/Lily, Charlie/Victor Krum
Warnings sex, dubcon, strong language, incest, slash
Summary: James begins to feel strongly for Albus, much to his disdain. When Albus informs him that he's in love with Scorpius Malfoy, James realizes that the feelings are much more physical than he thought. He learns that his Uncle Charlie was once in a situation like it with his brother, Bill Weasley, and takes the information to heart, and attempts to convince Al that there would be nothing wrong with a relationship with between the two of them.
Al is extremely hesitant, protests, even, but, right when things get naughty, Scorpius discovers the two of them in an act of passion. Disgusted and hurt, he attempts to cut all ties with Al. Albus then dives into the art of seduction as he tries to recapture Scorpius, and not give up the James in the process.

If only James hadn't ever listened to their Uncle Charlie.

Title: Untitled, so far.
Type: Het.
Rating: NC-17, or R.
Characters/Pairings: Draco/Hermione
Warnings sexual content, strong language, fluffiness...
Summary: Hermione goes back to Hogwarts without Harry and Ron, but it's a lot more angsty than the happ-go-lucky ones. Not for the faint of heart either.
Notes: hopefully I'll be finished soon!
