So, we've had our opportunities to squee and to rec stuff. How about revisiting some of those terrific talks we used to have as to why H/Hr spoke to us so strongly and what we saw in the text and/or the movies that showed us why it would be such a perfect pairing ( Read more... )

It's the sheer *preponderance* of 'evidence' - or, rather, *material* - which makes H/Hr so superior.

With H/G, or H/L, or any other pairing for Harry, the love interest is practically a blank slate. Even when it's dealing with Ginny after the 7th book - there still was very little we knew about her. Other than that Harry ignored her for almost all of the series.

But Hermione was with him from basically the start. Heaps and heaps of substance to their solid friendship.

Which then provides an abundance of fuel to the H/Hr pairing. One of the attractions of H/Hr is examining the transition between friendship and something better. Not only at the time that one or both of them 'crosses the line', but also, once they're romantically linked, in how they look back at those times, see what was in front of their noses, and so forth.

I don't know how many H/Hr stories have totally captivated me because of the new slant they've exposed on all of that canon H/Hr material. Material that none of the other ships possess.

Comparing H/Hr to other pairings is like comparing a Saturn V 3-stage rocket with a firecracker. One's got fuel to burn; the others have to start almost from scratch.
