Kennedy Center Award Winners

So I'm sitting at home, and things are relatively boring in Greenville and we're watching this Kennedy Center awards thing on TV, and I've never heard about it before, but I guess they acknowledge the "culturally" significant every year. This year it's Dolly Parton, Smokey Robinson, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Spielberg, and Zubin Mehta (I didn't know who this person was before 5 minutes ago). You can find a list of past recipients here.

Anyways, my mom idly wondered "who from today will be honored 30 or 40 years from now." Tough to pick 'em today. Thinking back 10 or 20 years I came up with The Talking Heads or the Rammones. Or if it has to be individuals, maybe David Byrne or Joey. Michael Jackson would have been, but I think he's kinda screwed that up. Bono/U2 I guess is pretty obvious. Someone from New Order? It starts to get difficult after that. Can you imagine Axel Rose getting some kind of award like this? Bon Jovi? Billy Joe Armstrong I guess is a decent bet. I think Thom Yourke/Radiohead is non-controversial enough. Chuck D? Oh wait, now Dolly is singing I Will Always Love You, so what about Whitney? Or, Beyonce? How about Jay-Z? Will Jay-Z be sitting next to the president while someone performs a song about selling crack at the Kennedy Center in 40 years? Hrmmmmm. Hard to imagine.

Clearly I'm really just thinking music here. Who are today's big musicians that will get this kinda thing?

Blah, I'm rambling. Is it obvious? This is boring. I'm gonna stop now.

greenville, bored, kennedy honors
