So yes, I heard of of Lanz situation up at Crane. I'm not surprised. And in fact, I suppose you can say that I'm one person who is not in favor of him receiving tenure and will not be joining in on all of the "save Lanz" crusades

Thanks for this entry. I agree with every word. Many of his comments were lude, sexual and innappropriate. I've subbed a few orchestra rehersals, and had him for conducing and in both settings i was not fond of his teaching styles. Nor do i feel prepared for conducting in the 'real world'. In dealing with how he acted a few years ago in dealing with SAI, I lost all respect for him. How can you teach students without respect ? IMO, its not possible.
Laurie! I remember hearing about the SAI situation, though I wasn't there so I'm not one to say anything about it. Unfortunately, even with the best professors, I don't think any of us are ready for the real world until we actually experience it.

Sherlock says ::purrrrrrr, purrrrrr, meow:: :-) Miss you, love...
Thank you for this post, Harold. Given the number of save-the-lanz posts here (including on my LJ), this took a lot of fortitude and, well... strength to post. I love how respectfully you stated your opinion, even if I disagree with it.
And THANK YOU for acknowledging (sp?) his strengths. This post shows the mark of a true professional. Someday I hope I can learn that from you.
We're all allowed to disagree with each other,... As long as we're respectful to each other's opinions and we don't take each other personally. Though I disagree with you, too, I'll always love you. :-)
Thank you for respecting my opinion, as well. I'm not one to "go in for the kill," so to speak.
