McCoy's Farm, Missouri, Sunday evening

"You're sure about going, hoss?" Ebenezar asked. "You know there's always a place here for you."

"I need to do this," Harry replied. "It's past time for it, I think. Much as I'd like to hide here from Morgan and his big shiny sword for the rest of my life, I think I'd like it more if I could prove I don't need to hide. And I don't think I can do that here."

Ebenezar nodded as Harry spoke. "Good enough reason for me. And you've been thinking about it long enough I know it's not just you wanting to get out of doing chores around here." The old man sighed then, shaking his head. "I'm getting too old to train another apprentice to do all this though. Might have to do something crazy like hire someone. How much time have I got until I need to do that?"

"Not sure," Harry said. "I figure by the end of the month I'll be heading out. Probably ought to make a final decision where I'm heading, first. And pack. So you've got plenty of time to find some poor sucker who'll let you order them around for a measly 8 bucks an hour."

Ebenezar snorted. "I only order you, hoss. It's good for you. Keeps that head of yours from getting too big. You still thinking of Chicago?"

Harry nodded. "Seems like a good spot." He wasn't going to mention that he'd met a girl at school who was from Chicago whose father was a friend of an alternate universe's Harry Dresden. Some things were better left unsaid because they were just weird. "We'll see. Maybe I'll head to LA. Or some tiny uninhabited island where Morgan can't find me."

"Boy, you stay away from LA. I can just see it now. You wandering onto some movie set and exploding cameras left and right. That city never did anything to you, so you just let it alone."

"Chicago never did anything to me either," Harry pointed out.

"You're less likely to cause expensive damages in LA," Ebenezar retorted. Little did HE know...

[Another alumni post, because I am mean. Harry remains a hermit which means interaction is rather unlikely.]
