"Excuse me." The elderly man stood up from seat, his twinkling blue eyes sparkling with mirth. Of course, his soft spoken words went with the wind and out the windows.

The students were chatting frantically, excited to be back at the wonderful place known as Hogwarts. The mischief, laughter, and eager minds were already flowing around the cold castle, causing a settling comfort in the Great Hall. The golden plates were lined up in front of each student, sparkling under the candles floating up by the celing, which was enchanted to look like the night sky.

The feast had been eatten quickly students talking, around the mouthfulls, of their tales about summer. First years had been already sorted, sitting in their seats anxiously, wondering what Hogwarts was all about. Just waiting to find the mysteries out beyond the Great Hall doors.

Though, as everything began to quite down, and students were getting full. There was something that was needed to be said.

"Excuse me." The elderly man, known as Professor Albus Dumbledore, spoke even louder.

Nothing.

Clearing his throat, he took a deep breath before... "Silence!" Dumbledore roared, echoing across the walls and back at the students, whose attention was now on the Professor.

"I have some very important news," Dumbledore paused, and scanned his eyes over the many students. "Your professors and I have talked over this for quite some time now, considering the lack of unity that has been shared at this school."

Silence.

"We've decided that we will be mixing up the houses, by combining dorms-" Outraged voices filled the Great Hall, mostly everyone wide eyed, confused, and angry. 'But that isn't fair!' A distant voice shouted out, unknown to who it was. "Silence-" Dumbledore said with great patience, understood this was the reaction he would receive, "let me continue."

The Great Hall now hushed with hesitance, everyone beginning to listen closely as if waiting to hear this was a joke. It had to be a joke, combined houses? Unity?

"We considered it would be extremely complicated to switch everyone's houses around," the Head Master continued. "So we've decided, as sort of an experiment, we'll be picking one person from Hufflepuff, one from Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Gryffindor. They will be paired up with someone from a separate house, and stay in a combined dorm with their partner. They will be expected to stay in that dorm for majority of the time, when not in class or meals." Moving from behind the long rectangular table, Dumbledore headed towards a object, covered in a beat up old white cloth.

"It was too hard to pick people on our own," he paused, glancing around at the stunned faces. "So we've decided to let-" raising his pale hand, his long fingers tugged at the cloth. Underneath had been a plain silver cup. "Something similar to the Goblet of Fire. All of your names have been entered, and it shall select the ones best for this opportunity." The Head Master stepped back from the cup, and watched it with the same twinkling mirth.

Silence was ear shattering now, students waiting eagerly, hoping that their name wouldn't be called out in any moment.

That moment was to come now, as the cup now glowed a deep purple, which seemed to look like mist sliding out from the cup and suddenly came a crack. A slip of paper floating out into the air. "From HufflePuff, - Aleron Barnes."

Silence followed the name. Everyone's head turning and searching for the mentioned Hufflepuff, some students raising from the seats to glance around. Moments pasted till a short, slim boy with bushy brown hair rose from his seat, seeming as nervous as a first year.

The third year boy moved himself from the bench and headed over towards Dumbledore, who offered a smile at the shy boy.

Crack.

Another name danced up into the air, Dumbledore catching it in his hands. "From Ravenclaw - Vincent Virgil." Heads whipped towards the Ravenclaw table, an angry looking boy stood up quickly, pushing himself from the table. He was muttering large words, and things of how unfair this was.

Vincent moved over towards Aleron, standing away from him with crossed arms.

"Well, it seems we have our first two dorm mates." Dumbledore smiled, and looked towards Professor Snape. "Would you please escort these two down towards the dungeon combined dorms, Professor?"

Snape looked up, and towards Dumbledore. He stared momentarily, and with a stiff smile, he answered. "Of course."

"The dungeons!" Vincent snapped, his eyes wide. "We're living in the dungeons? This is an outrage-"

Before the Head Master would even begin his sentence, Snape was already pushing them along towards the doors. "Get a move on." The potions professor crossed his arms over his chest, watching as the boys began walking with hung heads.

The Great Hall was a wreck, nervous that everyone would be separated from their loved dorms. From their loved friends.

"Let's continue on," Dumbledore glanced once more up at the cup, watching the purple mist swirl around before another name came out with a loud crack, quickly followed by another. Grabbing both of the slips, Dumbledore paused.

Suddenly, the Head Master smiled warmly, glancing over all his new and well known students. The small mirth was sparkling even brighter in his eyes, as if he was amused. "From Slytherin - Draco Malfoy. From Gryffindor-" He paused. "Harry Potter."
