Surreal was rather sure she was going to want to kill someone when this was all over, and it was most likely going to be herself.

Her opponent couldn't match her mastery of Titian's knifework, for which Surreal felt a fierce surge of pride, but she was getting her ass handed to her in hand-to-hand. Repeatedly. Her bruises had bruises ( Read more... )

"And I hate remaining in debt," Daemon replied, just as conversationally, the barest hint of a smirk flitting over his lips. "I do believe I owe you my share of the nutcakes, and I fully intend to make good on those payments."

"Liar," she countered, grinning as she slid down and to the side to attempt an escape. It wasn't fair, Sadi had a longer reach than her. "You may hate being in debt, but there is no way you want to give up Tersa's nutcakes."

Especially not if they were fresh.

"I'll give them up provided you can limp to the table before I make it there after our lesson," Daemon countered, falling immediately into a crouch and kicking out one foot at the side of her knee as she shifted away. Really, he was only trying to help. After all, the kick would push her leg in the direction she was already going. What could possibly be bad about that? "I'm not planning on making it completely easy on you, you know."

"You'll give them up anyway, because you won't break your word. You're just going to make me pay for it," Surreal pointed out, pivoting on that leg to try and smash her other knee into his nose before he could take her out. "Which, I already did pay for it. I survived your brother."

She still couldn't believe there were two of them. Wasn't Sadi bad enough on his own?
