“Uh-oh. Grown ups with badges!” Emmett Cullen’s amused voice caught Claire’s attention and she turned around to face the men that just came into the bar. Anger and fear spread throughout her body as she took in the ten men dressed in black and dark green - the official colors of the government issued trackers… men who tracked and locked any person they find who has abilities. Men that were chosen by her biological father. All she wanted to do was have a few minutes alone with that man… how could he do that to all of them?

“We have to leave,” Claire stated finally, turning back to face Emmett when she saw them looking around the bar. She knew that despite her dyed hair and contacts they would spot her… she couldn’t change the shape of her head, anyway and since she was on top priority for the men, they would definitely investigate anyone who remotely looked like her. “Now.”

Emmett glanced down into his friend’s worried face and grabbed her arm. Before she could feel the butterflies in her stomach start to jump at his touch, he had her in his arms and they were out of the place and into a dark alleyway. Times like these, she was especially content that her best friend was a vampire.

“Thanks, Emmett,” Claire whispered as he slowly set her down. She didn’t want to leave his strong embrace… despite the fact his embrace was like having arctic air blowing on her. She could barely feel that, though… all she could feel was that she was safe in his embrace - like there was nothing on this planet that could hurt her… which was true, sort of, since she could heal. Stupid crush, Claire thought as she pretended to glance around the alley. She hated the fact that she still crushed on him despite the fact she knew he already had somebody he loved. She hated the fact that it seemed to be her destiny to be alone… forever.

“Anytime, so since the bar’s out of the question… where do you want to go?” Emmett asked, leaning against the wall.

“Should probably stay low, somewhere dark, that they won’t look into…” Claire thought out load before spotting the glowing lights at the end of the alleyway. She smiled. “Up for a movie?”

“Of course,” He grinned excitement clearly heard in his voice. “There’s this movie I’ve been wanting to see… the Attack of the Grizzlies. Supposed to be really good - lots of blood and even has a monster love story tied in… you know - the classic monster movie.”

Claire chuckled, “Sure… the Attack of the Grizzlies sounds good, Mr. Grizzly.” His nickname came from the first time she met his sister-in-law, Bella Swan. As soon as she said how bear-like he was, she thought it was hilarious, what with her dad’s nickname for her and found herself calling him that. She was thankful that he didn’t mind at all… or she was sure she’d have been eaten alive or something.

“Excellent, hop on,” Emmett stated, lowering himself into a crouch so that Claire could easily get on his back.

“I can walk, you know.”

“I know, but my way is so much faster, Mrs. Grizzly.”

His nickname for her made her heart flutter every time he said it and she knew he could hear it… made her self conscious, but he hadn’t said anything and she definitely wouldn’t. She got on and held on tightly as he ran towards the movie theater.

THE END.
