Notes: Wow… it’s been so long since I’ve written any Claire/Peter fanfics… This was requested by
lt-sp, although I’m sure it’s more depressed then
lt-sp wanted. But I wrote it anyway because it flowed out and I couldn’t write anything else, lol.
She watched them leave… pain and grief continued to stab her in her heart as she watched him walk towards danger. She knew he had her ability to back him up, but he wasn’t invincible. Neither was she but Claire wanted to go with them, to make sure nothing bad happened to him, but he refused to allow her to go. He didn’t want her to be hurt. It was rational for him to feel like that, but it was just as rational for her to feel like this.
Claire silently remembered their private goodbye.
“I don’t want the baby hurt,” he whispered as he hugged her again. Tears demanded to fall from her eyes, but she wouldn’t allow them.
“Peter, please don’t go.” Claire begged uselessly. She knew he wouldn’t listen to her this time - there was too much at stake for him to stay with her. She hated to feel shallow, but she just didn’t want to her lose her husband. It had taken forever for them to become married; she didn’t want to lose any more chances to be with him the rest of her life.
“Claire, I’ll be okay… trust me.” He lifted her chin to be able to stare into her teary eyes. Gently, he stroked her cheek.
She wanted to refuse him again, but she knew even she couldn’t sway him. She nodded softly. “I trust you…just please promise me you’ll come back.”
Peter nodded, sadly staring into her beautiful eyes, “I promise Claire...” Before he could say anything else, she gripped him tightly and pulled him in for a kiss.
She pulled away to breath, and sucked in breath as he brushed away her bangs from her eyes. “Well, I think I’ll miss you most of all, Claire.” He said with a smile. Claire let out a sad smile at his lame joke.
“I love you Pete,” Claire stated, leaning her body against his in an embrace. He tightened his hold around her.
“I love you too,” He stated, closing his eyes, memorizing the feel of his wife against him.
When they pulled apart, he kneeled in front of her pregnant belly and smiled as he laid his hand against it. “Protect your mom, my baby boy.”
Tears finally fell when she couldn’t see them anymore on the road. Holding herself, she stared up at the sky, and silently prayed to the heavens that they would bring him back to her and their baby in one piece.
THE END.
