Let's Get ENDA Moving: It's Time to Come to DC!

Jan 20, 2010 14:03

This message from National Center for Transgender Equality Executive Director Mara Keisling is re-posted from NCTE's mailing list:

We need Congress to get the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) moving forward and we need you to come to DC to help convince them.

We're working daily with people on Capitol Hill to convey the urgency we all feel about this bill, but we need your presence as well.  That's why we decided to hold Lobby Days earlier this year than in the past - just 2 short months from now.  Your face-to-face conversations with your Representatives, Senators, and their staff members about why this bill is so urgently needed can propel the effort forward.

Those of you who were with us last year remember how empowering it feels to tell your story and the difference it can make. Our meetings then included talking about the need for federal hate crimes legislation, which was voted on right after Lobby Days and is now a law. Now it's ENDA's turn to pass.
Will you join us?

We'll have a policy conference as well as our Lobby Day training again this year; there's no cost at all to register. We've kept hotel rates the same as last year and will work with folks again to find community housing.  Both first-timers and experienced activists are welcome and we'll be sure you have all the tools you need for your visits.

Please, take a look at your calendar and make plans to join us in DC. And bring your significant other, your parents, siblings, children and friends. Their voices make a big difference with policymakers.

I can't emphasize enough just how important this moment is in our efforts to ensure that we pass a law to protect transgender people from discrimination at work.
