Don't people get that we already pay for the healthcare of people with no insurance? They wait until an illness gets really bad and walk into the ER and get free care. That cost goes to the hospitals and right back to the paying patients. And taxpayers. The tests and medications there cost thousands. With fewer people doing this by being able to see general doctors to prevent their condition from worsening, costs would go down. I'll admit, this is an ideal. But medicines to deal with light infections are cheaper(ish) than medicines dealing with really bad infections. Maybe not necessarily so in some instances, but in any case you tend to need less because you heal faster from lesser infections. Ideally, ER doctors would have less fear of litigation against them because there would be fewer very ill people to treat, thus their own liablitiy insurances would lessen.
I know I know call me a bubble head. Actually I think one of the biggest problems we have beyond the insurance companies are the horrid pharmaceutical companies. We pay far too much for our drugs. Just as an example, the exact same medication I take here that costs me $50 a month (uninsured) costs $2 in India. Or even $25 in Canada. Wtf is up with that???
I know I'm overly optimistic at times, but does this really not make sense?
