The above video, a scene from last year's WHIP IT, briefly explains the rules of roller derby. After enjoying the movie so much I wished I could play the sport (a first for me) seven months ago, I finally got to see our local team, the Molly Roger Rollergirls, in action.
The beginning of a "jam," what a play is called in derby. MRRG's in black, and the Tallahassee Capital Punishment are in orange.
Our jammer scoring points--always a good sign.
I had a great time at the bout, even though Tallahassee beat us 192 to 58 . All the women really enjoy it, despite looking like a group of angry Suicide Girls, and that's all that matters in the end. More pictures here.
