Hmmm can you get homework in games?!
Well, meh, I went on my first Alleyns riding experiance today. It was better than I expected it to be, however, we're now on a new yard hunt - and I'm quite happy to discover that the riding school about 5 minutes down the road from school is BHS Approved (I won't go into details about it, but simply, is basically a safe place to ride)! Wooo we can ride to school! Good news all around, since the Year 12's were pestering Mrs Smith (urgh, annoying Biology teacher who takes us riding) to consider taking us there.
To be honest, I hope she does move us there. I know I may sound like a complete knobcheese saying this, but the current place we go to, well, its a sad site really. *ooh god I sound like SUCH a loser!* Most of you should know I love horses, and this place is basically any horse rider's worst nightmare.
It's right in the middle of London, literally...it's surrounded by houses and is right next to a railway line. There are about 20 horses living in this place, none of which are really fit for anything, and quite frankly should be retired to the countryside *fucking hell I sound like some RSPCA person*. It's blatent that these horses aren't happy here; most of them are rescued anyways, so I don't really see why they should be made to run around a school all day. They're all very bad tempered, they all kick each other and bite, although they're managable enough to ride. They're hardly healthy animals either...most of them are scrawny or so fat, that they struggle to breathe just walking up to the arena.
They have absolutly no freedom. One horse alone should have a minimum of 1 arce of land to graze in...this place has about half an acre of land, covered in ragwort with minimal grass for about 20 horses. The school is pretty scummy too - it's basically bits of wood, propped up against each other, nailed together with a bit of sand shoved in the middle and a bit of metal put on top for the roof. The school is so small, that even with 8 of us in the lesson we could only fit in a few canter strides.
I can't believe this place is still open for business. It's even BHS approved, which is even more strange than anything. Riding is a countryside sport and horses are the type of animals that are most happy in the countryside, surrounded by grass and outdoors. Cobham Manor (where I used to go before we moved out) was brilliant - I'd never seen a place as lovely and horse friendly as that - twas a horse heaven! I can't understand how half an acre of land, tiny stables and a scummy arena, could be considered good enough to be approved by the BHS...
I'm hoping things will change for the better...seeing as I've lost basically everything horse related to me, riding at school is the only way I can keep up the hobby I've had my entire life, until I find myself a new horse, which won't be happening quickly.
Anyways, I will shoot oop now, before the RSPCA come and offer me a job. Sorry for the loser-ish type entry, but yeah, it's something that I've been thinking about all day; I needed to say something to get it off my chest.
