It seems to have been a rollercoaster ride the last week and a half! Actually the last month or three seem to have been like this. A week and a half ago I met the new team with whom I will be working from November 10th. Drinks in the new office and then a meal out at a local all-vegetarian Indian restaurant so this was an excellent way to meet them all. I am looking forward to this but the whole thing seems still slightly scary which I think is probably quite normal.
The day after this, H&I flew off to warmer pastures, i.e. Barcelona, where we spent a week staying with friends; sun-bathing; shopping; eating out at organic vegetarian restaurants (they can be found in Spain!); looking at Gaudi buildings and Picasso works of art; swimming in the Med and being stung on the neck, arm and leg by a jellyfish! (The mark on my neck is still there but is disappearing rapidly) and generally relaxing whilst being in one of my favourite cities with excellent company. It was well and truly a wrench to come back.
But back we came to fun things so it wasn't too bad. Thursday evening I spent accompanying H to her teaching class, during which I played join the dots of London, as well as drink unfeasably large amounts of coffee. Then Friday we went climbing, for me it was the first time since our beginner's course a week or so back. We spent three solid hours climbing which was fantastic. After which we looked at the possibility of buying our own climbing shoes instead of renting out pairs from the centre.
Saturday was spent back in Oxford, preparing the house for guests and then heading off to Jericho for a wonderful birthday night out where I was joined by fabulous people (thanks to those who could make it out), where I drank far too much, and smoked too many cigars! Sunday was spent recovering mainly, for me, but also had a very much needed refreshing walk along the canal and meal out at the pub on the way.
Today is Monday - enough said!
