Matthew slowly walked to his therapist's office. It was a hot, July day, but he didn't care. He went wearing dark jeans and a hoodie. His back was starting to sweat, but Matthew didn't care. He made his way to the office, which was about 7 blocks away from his apartment building.

Matthew made his way into the building, and went to the check-in center. "Well good morning Mr Bellamy" the receptionist said with a smile. "For you" Matthew shot back. The receptionist looked hurt. She phoned the therapist, and called to Matthew. "Go on up to her office, she's ready for you". Matthew slowly started to walk toward her office. He counted the tiles on the floor as he walked. "One, two, three, four...." he said as he made his way to the office. Matthew opened the door and walked into the office.

"Hello Matt" his therapist said with a smile.

"Dr Hudson" Matthew said and nodded, his blue eyes on the ground as he laid down on the couch.

Matthew looked in the mirror on the opposite side of the couch. He was paler than usual. His brown hair was still dark and short, his eyes still ocean blue. He was awful skinny for being 29. Matthew looked back to Dr Hudson, who was bright and bubbly all the time. Her blond hair was pulled up into a ponytail, and she was wearing large hoop earrings.

"How are you feeling today Matt?" Dr Hudson asked. "Same as always: shitty." Matthew responded. Dr Hudson gave Matthew a pitying look.

"So, lets talk about yesterday. What did you do?"

"Same as always: nothing." Matthew responded with an annoyed sigh. Dr Hudson frowned at Matthew. "Did you take a walk like I told you to?" "If walking from my apartment to here today counts." Matthew said. Dr Hudson frowned, feeling genuinely sad for Matthew. "You'll get through this Matthew, I know you will." Dr Hudson said, patting his knee.

"Are you sure that you don't want medicine Matt? I can always write a prescription and give it to you on Monday" Dr Hudson said.

"No" Matthew said. "You know what happened the last time I got medication. It backfired and it got worse. I can't risk it again!" Matthew said, raising his voice at Dr Hudson.

A tear dropped from her face, and she quickly wiped her eyes. "Matt, I've been helping you get through this for years now. I've seen clients come and go, get better and get worse, die and live, but Matthew honey, you just get worse. You refuse help. You talk to me 3 times a week and you have never once told me where the depression came from. Matt, I care about you way more than any of my other clients. I know that's not ethical, but it's true. You graduated law school, and you passed the bar! But now look where you are. Look. Look at yourself in the mirror. Do you see that person? Do you see that promising lawyer? Because I don't Matt, I don't. This session is over. Go home." Dr Hudson said.

And with that, Matthew stormed out of her office, tears in his eyes.
