HARMONY PODCAST MINICAST TRANSCRIPT
Hello and welcome to Harmony Podcast, I guess you could call this episode a Harmony Podcast minicast. There will not be a full episode this month due to lack of content and recommendations. Hopefully next month we`ll be back with a full episode and have lots of new stuff to tell you about including new songs and new fan fiction recommendations.
I`m taking time out today to do this, so if you hear any background noise I apologise. I`m at home with my son so like I said, I`m taking time out of my day here. But I wanna get this done and over with because I`ve just had enough.
Growing up basically what I was taught was, you believe in what you believe in and you shouldn`t have to explain yourself to anybody. If that`s what you think, if that`s what you believe then that`s good enough. So why after a week and a half… yeah, it`s been a week and a half since I did the interview for Spinnerscast why am I still being called out on this interview? Here`s what happened, it was Friday morning, I was contacted by Kim from Spinnerscast. I was asked to do an interview for their Valentine`s Day episode on the Harry/Hermione ship. It wasn`t said that I would have to justify why I ship the way I do. It wasn`t said that I had to explain my beliefs in the fandom or anything else. Or why I think they should belong in canon. I thought it was going to be a nice short little interview to do with Harry and Hermione for Valentine`s Day. Don`t ask me what I thought she was going to ask, because I have no clue. Truthfully that was the first interview I have ever given and I can truthfully honestly say I was very nervous doing it. I`m usually the one doing the interview, not giving the answers so it was a complete turn around for me. That didn`t help things at all and I am not afraid to admit, I was nervous and I may not have given the answers that everybody expected me to. And I`m sorry if I let my fellow Harry/Hermione shippers down but I don`t deserve to be called a “cold fish”
Okay number one it was recorded Friday night like I said late, so yeah I was quiet I`m sorry... dead tired you know at that time of night. I`m a mom of two so doing that late at night, basically we had some recording issues, with me, I don`t know what it is but I always have recording issues and what happened was she basically said I`d have to record my end of the interview. And I just assume, I guess wrongly, that she was going to record her end and you know edit them together. Find out the next day I edit up, well I didn`t even edit it I believe I just sent her the file and you know good faith of course I`m trusting, and I basically got an email back a little later saying well you didn`t record my part, her part. She wanted to know if we could redo the interview that night, Saturday night and the podcast was coming out Sunday. So we tried it again Saturday night, completely did not work at all that night, no recording programs would work for either of us. So basically I brought up the idea, you know why don`t you just re-record yourself asking the questions and piece my answers in. And she said that sounded okay and she was just going to do that.
Okay fast forward to Sunday when the podcast is released, from what I remember, I`m not going to say for sure but when she asked me questions on Friday night they were not as detailed as the ones she recorded herself asking during that interview that everybody heard. She added to it and truthfully I would have given longer answers had she added in all the extra details. I`m just so mad that I have to explain myself. This just isn`t right. I ship Harry/Hermione, I do a fandom podcast, I`ve done it for almost two years, I do another videocast for Harry and Hermione shippers for fan vids. And I do a fan fiction Harmonics podcast, what part of I`m a loyal shipper doesn`t anybody get out there? Not my loyal listeners, you guys I know that you guys know how dedicated I am to this ship it`s to those that listen to that Spinnerscast, that one five minute interview that I gave and judged me of off that. You know, how dare you. And it`s just like those other people that listen to my first podcast ever, Harmony Podcast number one. That short little blurb that I was so nervous doing, that was my first ever podcast and they judge me of off that they don`t listen to any others. They listen to that first episode and they judge me and they declare me an idiot, I don`t know what I`m doing.
I responded to the interview on Sunday, I was upset, I emailed Kim. And I emailed her while angry which was wrong because you always say things that normally you wouldn`t say if you where calm. I may have insulted her I don`t know… her email response seemed to kinda lean towards yeah I insulted her. I did not mean too. So Kim I`m apologising now if I insulted you in my email I`m sorry. But the way the interview was conducted, I`m just going to state this now, outside of our ship even if it`s just a general Harry Potter podcast, I will never do another interview again, ever. Not on a podcast. For this first and last time only and other than the interview with Twitch I`ve never really declared my beliefs or given my opinions. Because truthfully you know I do this podcast for fun. It`s for Harry/Hermione shippers, I`m not here to make a statement, I`m not here to try to convert people to our ship. I`m here to help fellow shippers enjoy what we believe in. You know a place to get away from all the nasty comments, the snide remarks, the fighting and arguing over stupid stuff. You know if you believe in Ron/Hermione go somewhere else and enjoy it. Don`t argue about it. Don`t try to convert us, go enjoy it. Go have fun. Write your own fan fiction stories, make a podcast of your own, you know it`s just… ugh. We do what we do because we like Harry and Hermione.
So on from that like I said first and last time I`m going to do this, the reason why I believe in Harry/Hermione I`m not going to try to justify myself. This is my explanation, my opinions only, okay. I`m not speaking for anybody else, this is just how I feel. I am not a voice of all of Harry/Hermione fandom, okay, this is me Misti right here just me. I read the first five books… and reading with an open mind, cause I wasn`t even in fandom at the time I read the books. So I didn`t even know it existed. Having said that, I read all five books and just pulling from what I had read I thought Harry and Hermione would get together. Now here`s why, I think in my own opinion that we chose a ship because of two different things. Number one is, we go of off past experiences or our own. The ways we get into relations, it`s either you go from the little boy pulling your hair stage to the bickering and arguing stage, to the unhealthy relationship stage. Because I`m sorry any relationship that has arguing the way that JKR portrays in the books is unhealthy. Growing up in the household that I did, yeah I can say that truthfully. Flat out, there it is.
The other part I kinda thing goes to certain people wanting to be a part of that group. I think that goes more to Ron/Hermione shippers because it`s… and Harry/Ginny shippers because they`re such large groups and now that it`s the norm, you know it`s canon, it`s in the books. People just kinda went with it, you know, I`ve seen people even convert from the Harry/Hermione ship, just jump on the Ron/Hermione bandwagon because that`s what everybody else was doing. Me myself I`ve never been that way, I seem to always go the opposite of everybody else. I`m true to myself though I go with what my heart, gut, mind tells me. Reading those books Hermione was always there for Harry, that is so important. Harry grew up by himself. Petunia Dursley, Vernon Dursley, they treated him terribly. And if you listen to last years Aprils podcast I even said you know I… Harry was abused. If not physically, verbally, mentally. A little kid it does not take much and the way Petunia treated him, you know his only relative that he knew, Harry`s going to value those that trust and believe in him. And I love how it`s portrayed that you know that he is friends with the people that see him as himself. Not as the Boy Who Lived, the Chosen One you know [laughs] The Chosen One, that still gets me, but of track, Hermione sees him for who he really is. She believes in him and she`s the first one ever that`s portrayed clearly in Goblet of Fire when she believed him no questions asked and Ron got jealous and walked away. That`s devotion, dedication, loyalty. Those three things lead to friendship and love. The one thing that just struck me the most, JK Rowling made a point of showing Harry, friendship is important to Harry and those that he trusts and is friends with mean the world to him. And that`s proven by how he sticks by Neville and how he accepts Luna. Neville`s so shy and quiet and Luna`s kinda of beat and I love her to death. And he accepts them for who they are because he was always judged growing up, he was the freak in his house.
Having said that, in Goblet of Fire, the way it was written to me, it seems like Harry had a really good relationship with Fleur. You know, they talked, she didn`t effect him like she effected Ron or the other guys around him. He treated her like anybody else and they kinda from what I you know took, they left things on good terms. Friendly terms, so why in book 6 would her allow Ginny to call her phlegm? Why would he sit there and just listen to her berate Fleur when you know to him she`s a friend? That`s just a side of Ginny that I never understood. Everybody says oh she`s so lovely, she`s so great. Where? You know she `s a spoilt little girl in a family of boys that has seen Harry as this hero all her life, doesn`t really know the real him like Hermione does but he just goes right to her. You know it`s Ginny because oh Ginny grew up and she`s beautiful now, yeah. That`s a good message for little girls out there, really, really good. Off topic again sorry.
The other thing that gets me with the shipping preferences, on iTunes I remember a comment that was left on there by one of the other podcasts little fans. This was something about Harry and Hermione, eww gross, they`re like brother and sister how could you even put them together. And they were appalled that there was rated R and NC-17 fan fics written about them. I`m sorry, there`s rated R and NC-17 rated fan fics about every ship out there and especially there`s slash too included in that. So we`re not just the little freak group you know we`re not the only ones writing stories like that. It`s every ship out there. And if you don`t know that, you`re close minded and you`re not looking. I`m sorry if that sounds rude but it`s true, it`s out there and I`m not the only one that`s participating in it. There are so many people that write out there. And the brother/sister thing, having a sister, reading the way that Ron and Ginny fight and then reading the way that Ron fights with Hermione wouldn`t that be the more brother/sister relationship right there? Ron and Hermione. They fight like siblings. You know he picks on her, he puts her down. Going from there Harry and Ginny, does it bother anybody else that Ginny is basically the spitting image physically of Harry`s mom? I mean it just has always, it squicks me out when I think about it [laughs] because people make it sound like oh Harry`s dating Ginny, or Harry`s dating Ginny because she looks like his mom. Stop and thing about that. That`s not right [laughs] You don`t date women that look like your mom and if you do there`s going to be issues down the road. I`ll tell you that right now and it`s from experiences. I`ve dated a mommas boy, it`s not pretty, not at all.
And going of off the mom thing if Harry was going to go for somebody that resembled his mom I see him going for Hermione. The way that Lily is described in the books, what little description we get, she`s clever, she`s the brightest witch of her year if I remember right. She`s head girl, she stuck up for Snape. I mean Ginny portrays Lily Potter physically, she`s got the hair, she`s got the looks whatever. Hermione has everything else that Lily Potter personified. She`s got the brains, you know she`s got the compassion, she`s got the loyalty. It`s all there. Harry could have picked either one. I think that covers about everything actually, those where my beliefs in the ship. That`s how I drew my shipping preference for Harry and Hermione. Those things that I mentioned, all of them combined and just reading the books.
A lot of people bring up that, oh Harry never says nice things about her, you know he never says she`s pretty. Neither did Ron you know, they both noticed her kinda at the same time for Goblet of Fire if I remember correctly, if not please correct me. When Hermione goes to the Yule Ball that`s when both boys kinda realise, you know, well Ron a little sooner because yeah in a round about way asked her to go. I think, you know being a girl [laughs] when you`re asked out to a dance by somebody that`s like Victor Krum in the books, you get that little bit of confidence you know. Oh he`s interested in me, it`s me he asked to go, that confidence just kinda transforms girls, I`ve seen it happen so many times. Hopefully some of you will understand what I`m saying with that.
There`s my opinions, it`s out in the open. First and last time I`m gonna justify myself. All my loyal listeners you guys know that I adore the ship and your loyalty is just astounding to me. And like so many others I think I`m just going to basically from now on even more, stay within the ship. I have fun doing the website, we`ve been growing everyday. It`s been getting so many more visitors, the forum`s growing. They have some wonderful conversations in there, the forum members are great. I love their personalities, they`re so fun loving, they`re so easy going you know. And just the people I`ve met through this, my fellow shippers. It`s wonderful, I`m gonna enjoy this for as long as I can until I have to finally one day stop doing this podcast. But until then I`m going to have fun with it and I don`t care what anybody else says. That`s just how I`ve always been, that`s how I feel now and I`ll not give anybody else the opportunity to put me down ever again. Because I had enough of that in high school, I`m out of high school now.
So if anybody that heard the interview is listening and you are under the assumption that I`m a “cold fish” as that one commenter so nicely put it, I`m not. If you listen to the podcast and anybody that`s listened to every podcast I`ve done knows, I am far from being a cold individual. I care deeply for those that listen to this podcast and I would do anything to help any one of them if not more. I do this podcast without looking for sponsors, I do it with my own money, I do it with my own free time and I do it of my own free will, for the fun of it. For the people, for the wonderful people that I`ve gotten to meet, to talk to. Hopefully I`ll get to meet some of you guys face to face when the book and the movie come out. I`m doing this because my loyal listeners, as few of you, asked me to explain my side of the story since the interview came out. Because I know a few of your friends listen to it that have never heard me before and said are you sure she`s even a Harry/Hermione shipper? Ah, the person who made the cold fish comment put, are you even a Harry Potter fan? Like I said, you don`t know me, you have no right to judge me of off a five minute interview done by a person I`d never talked to before. And the fact that you can be that judgemental shows how close minded you are.
That`s the last of this, we`re going for the peaceful ship. We`re just gonna enjoy what we have. Enough of me rambling on and on [laughs] I`m sure you`ve heard enough.
