Plenty of stories I haven't yet tried! I'll certainly have a look at De Profundis (I'm following the four other you've mentioned).

Thank you again for these wonderful lists.

You're welcome! I like Grindy's style and for the most part her characterizations, so I hope she'll eventually return to it--hasn't been updated in quite a while.

Thank you for these! I love your guides with a passion but I hope you enjoy having a break from them and get some of your own writing done!

Um, Get a Life started at Ashwinder on July 22 2007 - but it's only about 27,000 words thus far so I don't think it would count for this.

Just added it in fact. It's just that when I fic trawl, if I note that a WIP has reached 40,000, I add it to my spreadsheet and/or post and start reading it. If it's below that, unless someone has pointed it out to me, it's below my radar screen. But that's why I asked for people to let me know any they've been following not on the list--the word count isn't the cut off, the date is.

So now I'll just have another fic to read when I get a moment :-)

I hope you enjoy having a break from them and get some of your own writing done!

Given the sshg_exchange among other things, definitely a priority!

Hey there,

I figured it was a long way below your cut-off word count. It's probably a reasonable time to read it as "act 1" is done and you'll see that there is a natural divide between that and the writing to come.

Oh god, yes, I'm working on my Exchange thing right now and it's like an ever-lengthening corridor.

Good luck with yours!

There are just so many WIP that never finish, I picked 40K as the arbitrary cut off, because I figure if they get that far, good chance it might finish and/or have an impact on the ship. Also, if it's destined to be epic, once it hits 40K I better check it out, because I don't want to catch up last minute with a 300,000 word story--so that's the logic behind it.

But there are several stories on the post below that I personally follow because I became aware of them/got hooked from the start--in fact, every WIP I mentioned in my comments as liking is below 40 K

Oh god, yes, I'm working on my Exchange thing right now and it's like an ever-lengthening corridor.

Wow. The work you do is wonderful. I have a hard enough time making the lists of my own fics!! :)

And it's all renitaleandra's fault.

But I did want to be comprehensive and try to dig out the good SSHG for a number of reasons. And the coding was a rather mind-numbing, soothing thing, and after a while, you can often pick up if a story isn't your cuppa or even really awful very quickly. If someone shows they don't know how to write within paragraphs, it's not getting better in Chapter 10. So it's less work to do this than it might look.

I'm glad you have enjoyed them.

Ooh, this list is certainly something I'll need to return to some day when I actually have time to read again... quite a few of those I've not even heard about, given that I only have time to check the archives for anything new very randomly these days, just relying on update notifications for anything I'm already following.

Not many of these are ones I liked--be prepared for a lot of drek--as you would whenever you fic trawl. I really do love the ones I mentioned in the comments though--I hope we'll see them updated before long.

Hm, yes, some I recognise as ones I've looked at and immediately discarded; several of these I'm already following (all of those you mentioned in the end apart from Three of a Perfect Pair - I really don't care for cross-overs with things I've no clue about - plus several others). That still leaves a few potentials - worth a look some day at least! :-D

Of course, by the time I actually might have time again, there'll be a load of new things around already...

I enjoyed Three of a Perfect Pair despite never having watched House--but then this was one of the early well-written ones when I was absolutely ravenously hungry for signs that Snape--and the ship--were alive.

Of course, by the time I actually might have time again, there'll be a load of new things around already...

Heh. I would actually hope so. That would mean there's life in the ship.
