Sep 29, 2009 15:08

this is pure crack. or it was supposed to be.

Character(s): (1st) 14th, Rhode, chibi!Lavi (2nd) Rhode, Sheryl, Tyki, 14th
Fandom: D. Gray Man
A/N: based off...
twitchy_plink 's entry...talking about the true pairings in D. Gray Man. More specifically number 66-->14thxAny reflective surface. Err...though I will say the first cut leads to a more serious interpretation (that goes along with Top Hat a request I'm currently trying to work on.) But the second cut leads to the actual humorous one. Oh I'll also upload the second one as a part of the When Kanda Smiles series (probably) after editing it a bit.  Why didn't I just upload them separately now? Because I didn't feel like it. *laugh*

Warning(s):
1st one- mild spoilers, relative cuteness, a dash of speculation, and  a slight sprinkling of disturbed redheads
2nd one- mild spoilers, AU-time verse, gay twin alert, cross-dressing Tyki (Yes Tyki), and refusal of candy before dinner

Rhode walks into the room and wonders if she should leave. When she sees the 14th crouching down behind a smaller boy, his top hat perched percisely on a head of red hair.

Maybe she should leave. No. She knows she definitely should, but she doesn't and instead pauses in the doorway, watching the 14th gently tilt the hat to the side, in efforts to make it fit better when it was already much too big. The boy wasn't making it any easier, she could tell he was uncomfortable from the way he kept squirming, then freezing, only to start squirming again. He also didn't seem to like looking at himself--judging from how his eyes (well, eye) never strayed to the mirror for very long.

Or, well, they caught sight of her anyway.

And maybe she was a little surprised.

"Hmm?" The 14th hummed nonchalantly, glancing into the mirror as well, "Ah! Rhode!" He smiled in that familiar happy way that made her stomach flutter, but she squashed it immediately, "What are you doing here?"

"Oh, just passing through."

"Does the Earl know?" The boy looked between the quizzically, and Rhode almost wanted to read his mind. Almost. Just to see what the boy would think.

"Why would he have to know?" she wondered instead, taking a few steps forward. She saw the boy flinch but ignored it, "And besides, you've been MIA recently," she was behind him now, but the 14th never once turned around, just grinned into the mirror at his Noah's reflection.

She faintly wondered if the boy could see it.

But no. Of course not.

"Ah, I was just visiting my brother, you know, I haven't seen him in a while!" Cheerful as always, she wondered how the man could keep it up, "He's doing well, if you're curious. Still in the entertaining business. Everyone always needs a clown to make people laugh!"

"I true I guess," but she couldn't help the scowl, "He's still not coming over to our side, is he?"

Immediately the man tensed, and in turn the boy liked back at her, green eye--green eye...

"Oh? And who are you?" She saw the 14th's hand drop to the boy's shoulder and squeeze. Like he thought she'd do something to him, which she wouldn't. Yet. Anyway.

"I'm--" the boy didn't seem afraid though, but he paused long enough to send a look up at the 14th, "Who're you?"

Rhode felt a giggle slip out, "Me? I'm Rhode. Rhode Kamelot."

"And?"

"She's my...sister...I suppose you could say." The hand was still there, squeezing, "Oop! The hat's falling again!" but then it was back to his head and the moment of protectiveness was gone, "It just won't stay on straight, will it?"

"And I keep saying it'll get stolen." The boy remarked, tone almost scathing, "You saw that man."

"Yes I did," a pair of eyes flickered back to her, she blinked in response, "I have others though."

"Yeah but I don't need it. And why can't you keep this one?" The boy glanced at her through the mirror, but it was almost like it pained him, and his gaze more than eagerly left the mirror to focus on his lap, "I...really don't. I mean. Really."

"But it does look good on you."

"No it doesn't."

Rhode decided to butt in, "Yeah it does! She leaned on the Musician's shoulder, putting on her best smile, and reaching out to pat the hat, purposely making it sink down and cover the boy's eyes.

Then she looked in the mirror, her shadow, his shadow and a boy with red hair in between. It almost felt like family, in the reflective surface. Almost.

She wondered faintly how long it would last.

*************************************************************************

"Y'know, he's been acting weird lately." Road leaned over the couch, watching as Sheryl paced the room--back and forth, and back and forth--"I swear he keeps staring at the mirror and...preening himself...it's almost ridculous!" Back and forth again, then a halt, and a glare at the stair case, "And to make matters worse he kicked me out!"

"And Tyki's still in there?" Sheryl whirled around a scowled at Rhode. Would have glared too, but that was her own little privilege . She knew he'd have to answer her anyway.

"Yes he is and I don't know what on earth they're doing!" Now he was whining, and rubbing his forehead like it pained him to even think of the concept, "Goodness knows, they may be twins but--"

"Act nothing alike," she righted herself, and grabbed a lolipop from the glass container on the side table, moving to pull the wrapper off, but she didn't get that far before Sheryl snatched it, rather rudely, away, "Papa!"

"No, Rhode, you'll spoil your dinner." He could reprimand about bad eating habits all he wanted to, even now, "You can have it when you get back. After all--" then an exasperated sigh, "--after all, I'm about to just barge up there and see what on earth those two could be doing!"

"Want me to go?"

"I can just as easily go myself." She watched him place the lolipop in his pocket and take a few steps towards the staircase.

"But you might see something weird." A pause.

Sheryl's back when rigid, one hand clenched on the beginnings of the banister, "What?"

"Tyki does that to people." Rhode continued on, grabbing another lolipop, just to hide her smile.

"Does...what...to people?"

"Makes them do weird things."

"Like...what?" he turned his head, slowly to her, face paler than usual.

"Oh you know," She paused for emphasis. It was all too funny, "I'm sure you can think of it~"

Oh he definitely could. She knew he could. His mind would run wild--

"Oh hell no." And if she had been anyone else, he probably would have used a series of much more colorful terms. He didn't though, and saved his breath instead for climbing the stair case in bounding leaps.

....

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

Rhode let out a laugh, and a few moments later, Sheryl appeared again, with a very frazzeled and--

"I always knew blue would look good on you, Ty-ki!" She chimed, giggling as the man--teen (he was still a teen after all)--attempted to maneuver down the stairs in the...very feminine garment.

"NO MORE CROSS-DRESSING BOY!"

"But--but--!" Another pair of footsteps and the 14th came bounding into view, hair around his shoulders, much longer than Tyki's own, and immaculate as always--was that pink fingernail polish? She couldn't be sure--"Doesn't it look good on him?"

"AND TYKI!" Tyki flinched and scowled, bunching up the skirts, before letting them fall again, "DON'T LET YOUR TWIN BROTHER BOSS YOU AROUND LIKE THAT!"

"I wasn't bossing him around!" The 14th complained avidly, easily beating the both of them down the stairs.

"Then what were you doing?"

"Requesting that he help me with something!"

"And that would be?" Sheryl glanced scathingly over at Tyki, but Rhode couldn't help noticing the way his eyes did a once over Tyki's figure, "Well? How could you agree to do something so--so--" at a loss for words, he opted for hand motions, waving frantically at the dress like it was both offensive but highly amusing as well.

"Because he's the only one who fit the measurements!" the 14th answered for him, "And I have to do this or else!"

"Or else what?" Eyes still glued to Tyki, but the words were aimed, harshly at the younger older twin, "What on earth could possibly force you into a-a dress? You're a man aren't you?!"

"Well brother," the response he got was more than a little cold, in any regard, and very much shut everyone up, "I would like to think that I am, wouldn't you?" He clenched at the frills and sighed, "But what else would you have me do?"

Sheryl sputtered for a moment, and Rhode laughed, "Well it does look good on Tyki-pon~"

"He can't wear that to see the Earl, though!" Sheryl was very near panicking now, but that only made Rhode laugh harder as the twins exchanged brief looks that she wouldn't even attempt to read.

"We aren't going." The 14th spoke up, shifting uneasily, and picking at a recently painted (and manicured?) nail.

"And why?"

"I have to meet up with from friends."

"Where, and again, why?" Rhode never thought she saw Sheryl look so frazzeled before, but it paled in comparison to the constant twitching fingers of Tyki's hands--gripping, then loosening against the soft blue fabric, and frills, "There's nothing more important than meeting the Earl for dinner!"

"That's exactly why I didn't want to tell you." The 14th snapped, closing the distance between them and grabbing Tyki firmly by the wrist, "But we're going anyway. I promised."

"Still--where?" He eyed the both of them, and really, Rhode knew they were both in equally as formal a wear as they would dress in (admittedly, Tyki wouldn't be so inclined to wear a dress, but still) to visit the earl, or go to a ball. So wherever it was, it certainly was on the high class end of things.

Not that that ever said anything about company.

"It better not be, oh, what are those things called? Gay bars?" Both boy's flinched, Rhode cooed, and Sheryl's face? Aptly horrified, "You aren't thinking of going to...to...a place like that are you?"

"If I say no will you let us go?"

"No."

"Then yes?"

Sheryl didn't even get a chance to grab them before the two seemingly disappeared.

"Dammit."

And Rhode could only wonder when he had played the Arks song. And why she hadn't heard it. And...where on earth they were going.

But then she was sure to get it out of them later.  A grin slowly eased its way across her lips. Oh yes...she would definitely get that story.
