New beginnings

I don't do New Year resolutions.  If something needs changing, then it should be changed regardless of the time of year.  My life isn't lived on a calendar day basis anyway, but on a sequence of events.  My new year started the day I left the Navy and I've been resolving to change my life ever since then.

Starting over is difficult and rarely ever easy.  I've had to jump through all kinds of hoops and experience various disappointments, but I'm still breathing.  I have insurance now, so just in case I run into a moment of being out of breath, I've got someone else footing the bill.  ;)  I have about another six months left of college with classes starting again on Monday.  Considering the fact that I had a more than full time job for four years and managed to finish three years of college coursework in that time, I think completing my degree in a year as a full time student is pretty notable.

Though I'm unsure of how much free time I'll have in the next couple of months, there are a few things I have in mind to fill that void.  After losing ten pounds of muscle mass since September, I know I need to start getting back into a cardio routine.  I have two energetic dogs that would also love to join in on that adventure, after a little more loose leash training.  The only hold up is having my ankle heal from a sprain that I suffered about a week and a half ago.  That really only prevents strenuous activities, none of which I'm really up for now anyway with the athletic shape I'm in, or not in.  I know Corey also wants to get more active again and I'm going to have to find the motivation for both of us.

With Corey now back on a sea duty rotation, I know that my time alone is going to be much more frequent, especially when he deploys in May.  That being said, I really need to find some kind of social outlet that I enjoy.  I've never been the best at keeping in touch with friends, so relations in that category are pretty lacking.  I've been considering getting involved with a local hiking group again, and possibly a photography group.  I'm open to trying new things, if I can put my social anxiety aside.

It's another year of changes ahead, as it was with the year behind me.  I'm looking forward to experiencing many great things.
