Every time you get the opportunity to lay your hands on a cloth doll or plushie do so!
Perhaps your kids have a million and one teddies like mine, but anyway examine it in great detail, materials, pattern pieces, construction... examine carefully how it has been put together, you can learn a lot.
Sometimes it's worthwhile trying to be discreet about it though, you don't want to feel a store detectives hand on your shoulder demanding to know why you're poking about up a dolly's skirt in the middle of the toy department at your local superstore...
